How to Overcome Insecurity? Beauty Queen Answers in Beyond Small Talk

You’ve had enough.

You are fed up with insecurities ruling over your life.

You are tired of faking confidence in front of others and you just want to be a really confident person.

Beloved, to be insecure is not part of God’s plan for you. As a matter of fact, you were made to be free and confident of who you are in Jesus Christ!

And yes, you can stop being insecure. Beauty queen and Beyond Small Talk host Venus Raj suggests tips to help you overcome insecurity and fully embrace your God-given identity.

Tip #1: Ask yourself why you are feeling insecure

Only when you know the real cause is when you can heal the root and liberate yourself.

So instead of wallowing in your insecurities, the first step is to face and analyze them one by one. On your journal, write down all your insecurities and ask yourself, “Where do I think this insecurity comes from? Why do I compare myself with others?”

It’s time to recall that life experience or deeply rooted childhood trauma that caused your insecurities and fear, so you can start to heal. Overcoming insecurity doesn’t happen overnight, but you can start praying for them and re-writing a positive belief about yourself.

Tip #2: Stop comparing yourself with others

To Venus, comparing yourself to others can be healthy if you want to learn and improve. However, if the comparison brings you to a point where you feel bad about yourself or you feel better than other people, then you should stop.

She admits that despite being a beauty queen, she also had a fair share of insecurities, and eventually learned from them, “I realized that the main reason of my insecurity was actually comparison. Comparison kills, and comparison is not glorifying in the eyes of the Lord.”

Tip #3: Be honest with God. Let Him know what you feel.

Insecurities are deeply rooted in fear — fear of not being enough, fear of what other people will think of you, fear of exposing your weaknesses to the world.

It could be hard to overcome your insecurities when you’ve been living with them for so long.

Thankfully, the Word of God is here to remind you of this truth:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—

 whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—

of whom shall I be afraid?”

(Psalm 27:1 NIV)

The solution to insecurity is not to attempt at perfection, but to rest in the stronghold of your life – Jesus. You cannot knock out all your insecurities at once, but you can work on them one at a time with the help of a perfect God that covers all your imperfections.

So don’t be afraid to be humble, honest, and vulnerable to God. Whether it’s physical, emotional, financial, or intellectual insecurity, you can pray and ask Him to heal them one by one.

Don’t allow the standards of others to dictate how you feel about yourself. As Venus puts it, you might struggle with your insecurities, but they don’t define your identity.

“We cannot overcome insecurity apart from the one who gives us security, and that is the Lord. Your emotions are valid, but I pray that you would find your security in the Lord again. Nothing can fill in the void that is in our heart that’s supposed to be filled by the Lord alone,” she ended.

You are whole.

You are fully accepted.

You are loved.

So starting today, keep your head up high. You are precious in your Heavenly Father’s eyes!

Are you still struggling to find your worth, value, or identity? Are you crippled by insecurities?

3 Keys to Effective Prayer, According to Tanikala Actress Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz

What are you praying for today?

Whatever you may be praying for — healing, restoration of relationships, or provision — you can be assured that God acts on your behalf. But do you know that the condition of your heart when you pray is such an important factor to bring God’s response?

This Holy Week, unlock the 3 keys to effective prayer according to Tanikala presents Isa Pang Hiling actress Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz:

Key #1: Simply pray

Prayers are powerful – there’s no single ounce of doubt about that.

Prayers are powerful because the God who hears them is all-powerful. Likewise, the effectiveness of your prayer does not rely on rituals, length, or big words. Prayers don’t have to be complicated.

So, what does it take for your prayers to be effective?

Simply pray. Do not heap up empty phrases (Matthew 6:7) and simply present your honest self to your Heavenly Father. That said, there is no limit as to when and where you can pray!

Key #2: Pray with faith

Do you pray confidently? Do you pray in faith?

Prayer and faith go hand-in-hand because, without faith, it is impossible to please God! (Hebrews 11:6). That’s why when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all (James 1:6).

If you pray about something yet you still worry about it, isn’t it defeating the purpose of praying? Let go of your worries and doubts.

Have faith that there is a loving God who hears your prayers. Have faith that He will answer. Have faith that whatever you are praying for right now, know that it is safe in God’s hands.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24 ESV)

Key #3: Pray with thanksgiving

Through prayers, bodies are healed, relationships are restored, lives are transformed.

That’s how good God is. And praying is not just about presenting your requests to God; it is also an opportunity to worship God and reflect on His goodness.

Saying “thank you, God,” covers a lot of things. First, it is a powerful act of acknowledging that God is in control. Second, it pleases Him when you pray without ceasing and give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

So if you’re praying for something and it’s a yes, a not yet, or even a loving no from God, pray with thanksgiving. After all, whatever the outcome is, God is worthy of praise and honor.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6 ESV)

But before you focus on the results of your prayers, know that praying is a blessing itself. Imagine, an opportunity where you can commune with the Creator of heaven and earth!

And though He wants to bless your prayers, God does not want you to place your faith in the outcome. He wants you to place your faith in Him.

Do you have prayer requests?

Beneath the Wonders are Woes 3 Ways to Genuinely Care for Indigenous Kababayans

Beneath the Wonders are Woes: 3 Ways to Genuinely Care for Indigenous Kababayans

Aetas. Lumad. Mangyan. Dumagat. Matigsalug.

Have you heard of any of these Indigenous Peoples groups before? What comes to your mind when you hear about them?

You would surely agree that indigenous communities are rich in traditions and cultureWhen it comes to livelihood, nature is their friend as they are talented in fishing and agriculture.

More than the vibrant-colored garments and tribal patterns, they take pride in their solid sets of beliefs, innate resiliency, and the ability to thrive on their own without having to conform to the standards of modernity.

However, beneath the beauty and wonders of indigenous communities lie countless woes.

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples estimates that there are 14 million indigenous peoples in the Philippines. Even though they make up only 13of the country’s total populationthey are among the country’s poorest.

Because they mostly reside in the mountains or far-flung areas, they have limited access to healthcare, education, and other basic needs. They are often excluded, discriminated against, and poorly represented. And while there isn’t one face to abuse and exploitation, the United Nations reports that the women and children of indigenous communities are among the most vulnerable.

Alleviating their difficult situation is possible, but with your help!

In your own little ways, you can support and uplift indigenous communities. Here are 3 ways to genuinely care for our indigenous kababayans:

1. Care to be informed

How well do you know your indigenous kababayans?

There are several reasons why people do not care for them. Most of the time, people are reluctant to support indigenous peoples because they are not aware of the latter’s unpleasant conditions.

Who are the indigenous peoples in your community? What help do they need? What happens to them when disasters strike? Is there an organization near you that supports them?

As you educate yourself about their situation, you can help break stigmas surrounding themMore so, your compassion toward them could grow. You might find it easier to lend a hand out of love, not out of guilt or compulsion.

2. Care to invest in indigenous youth

Like any other Filipino, indigenous peoples have the right to quality education. Education doesn’t just help them escape poverty, it also helps them pave a better future for themselves and their families.

Likewise, education could protect them from abusers, or anyone who might try to take advantage of their condition

However, due to worsening poverty, education becomes a privilege especially to our indigenous kababayans. And now, the current pandemic makes life even harder for their youth.

If you are asking what additional value you can bring to the community, supporting the education of indigenous youth is one of the best gifts you can give. You can make a lasting impact in their lives by partnering with the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm.

Operation Blessing’s Back to School program offers scholarship and other assistance to underprivileged yet deserving indigenous students. And your help, no matter how small, is important to make a change.

3. Care to pray for indigenous peoples

The diversity of indigenous peoples is rarely celebrated; their communities are rarely supported. At the same time, they are rarely prayed for.

But your indigenous kababayans need your prayers, now more than ever.

Lifting them up to God is one of the purest expressions of your concern for them. Pray that God would protect them and meet their needs according to His riches. Pray that they, too, would also experience the saving love of Jesus.

Ask for healing and reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples. Ask Him to open the hearts of Filipinos and allow them to listen compassionately and without judgment

Lastly, ask for blessings, guidance, and discernment, that He may equip you to help those who are in need – one indigenous kababayan at a time.

So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people. (Galatians 6:10 NASB)

“God’s outpour of blessings did not stop. Here’s what He did in our lives_4

“God’s outpour of blessings did not stop. Here’s what He did in our lives”

Lourdes Cresencio blurted out these words. She could not believe the miracle that was set before her eyes.

Before that, Lourdes remembered experiencing an extreme low when she suffered a heart attack while her husband suffered a stroke. They were caught off-guard. They had no money to cover their medical expenses that amounted to more than a million pesos.

“I asked, ‘Why is this happening to us? We were so unprepared financially, yet I believed that God would not allow situations that I cannot handle,” Lourdes recalled. She was left with Php 6,000 in her pocket after trying to sell their property to no avail.

They had nowhere to run but to the merciful arms of God.

In the midst of her despair, Lourdes chanced upon The 700 Club Asia and was moved by the story of a woman who learned how to give even though she, too, was in dire need.

Boldly holding onto God’s promises of healing and provision, Lourdes faithfully supported God’s work by donating to the CBN Asia.

“Even when we got sick, we did not stop giving because I know who my God is. I know that He will finish what He has started,” Lourdes hoped.

True as they say, God moves in miraculous ways. God honored Lourdes’ generous and obedient heart. Just a week after she made her donation, the outpour of miracles started.

It was effortless and trouble-free! Someone reached out to me and wanted to purchase our property. God was really faithful to us,” she shared.

Apart from that blessing, Lourdes’ husband was discharged from the hospital for freeWhat happened next further solidified her faith, stirred her love for God, and strengthened her belief in giving.

God’s outpour of blessings did not stop there. I recovered from my sickness and was told that I did not need to undergo any medical operation. All my medical needs were met. I was in awe of how God miraculously moved in my life!

Do you also want to experience God’s outpour of blessings in your life?

Out of her own need, Lourdes gave to the work of God. If God honored her heart, it could happen to you as well! As you give generously and freely, may you experience His blessing in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (Deuteronomy 15:10 NIV)

Looking for Ways to Help Families Hit by Typhoon Ulysses?

Houses fully submerged in flood waters. Families drenched on their rooftops. Vulnerable individuals pleading for help and rescue.

Have you seen these tragic images that circulated online in recent days during and after Typhoon Ulysses? Perhaps, you have also experienced some of these overwhelming scenarios, too.

Still reeling from Typhoon Quinta and Typhoon Rolly’s impact, our kababayans were caught flat-footed when Typhoon Ulysses lashed Luzon last weekend.

Typhoon Ulysses did not just trigger massive flooding – it also displaced thousands of families, claimed innocent lives, and left billions worth of residential, agricultural, and infrastructural damage.

Even after leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Typhoon Ulysses’ trail of death and destruction continue to affect especially the most vulnerable.

Through your genuine prayers and generous support, you can help them recover from this calamity in your own little ways! Help rebuild a life by partnering with CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines.

Operation Blessing has been working hand-in-hand with church partners and local government units in typhoon-affected communities, so you can ensure that affected families will get the help they desperately need.

CBN Asia’s Oligase makes it to the 29th St. Louis International Film Festival!

Exciting news!

CBN Asia’s first feature film, Oligase (Demon of Fear), is officially selected at the 29th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF) – a regional, internationally themed film event dedicated to exploring cross-cultural understanding through the art of cinema.

The film, which will be shown during the festival on November 5-22, 2020, is also part of an 8-film juried Interfaith Award competition.

Oligase’s story revolves around LahaMatigsalug girl who rebels against her tribe’s strict beliefs about the Oligase, a monster who attacks and eats school children. Driven by her stubborn desire to gain knowledge, Laha runs away and slowly uncovers that there are greater and darker monsters in her journey away from home.

Directors John Valdes TanCBN Asia’s Chief Operating Officer, and Icko Gonzalez, Special Projects Manager, breathed life into the novel Oligase by Pio Gabad Arce, where the film was based.

Tan hopes that through Oligase, which was filmed in the remote villages of Marilog District in Davao City, the Filipinos’ compassion for Indigenous Peoples will foster.

“The viewers will be transported to the world of our Indigenous Peoples. Their thoughts, beliefs, and life are so different from ours. I hope as we know them and understand them, our compassion, burden, and love for them will grow,” he shared.

Gonzalez shares the same vision, who adds, “I am grateful that our film was selected by SLIFF; doubly excited that more people will get to see it. I hope that, like me, with this whole experience, they will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of our brothers and sisters, the Matigsalug.

Keep Your Child Focused and Engaged while Learning at Home! Here’s How

What are the challenges that you and your child encounter during distance learning?

For some children, it can be challenging to maintain focus and stay engaged as they learn inside your home-slash-classroom-slash-quarantine place.

The good thing is, with your supportthey can still thrive amid challengesYou can ensure that they would participate well during their classes and accomplish their distance learning tasks.

To help keep your child focused and engaged, check out these simple yet helpful tips from online educator and Beyond Small Talk guest, coach Lyqa Maravilla.

Sit by your children in the same room

Just like how children want to see their parents while having classes at school, they will also be at peace knowing that there is an adult who looks after them while they learn from home.

“If the kids know that there is an adult supervising them – even though they are busy with their own tasks – can keep them from dozing off or not paying attention to their teachers,” coach Lyqa explains.

The Family and Children’s Agency agrees that being around your child is a huge help. Also, it would be helpful if you start and finish the day with a simple check-in with your child. Ask them about their learnings, schedule for the day, and resources or help needed.

Set up a reward system for your child

Keeping your child engaged in lessons for several hours a day is not easy. But with a bit of effort and a sprinkle of creativity, you can encourage them to stay on track.

Coach Lyqa suggests that you reward your child for completing their distance learning tasks and assignments.

If they participate in their online classes, if they follow their schedule, it would be nice if they can trade it for points. It could be an extra screen time for movies or other activities as a reward. That way, they have additional incentives and something to look forward to,” she shared.

Providing immediate positive feedback, according to the John Hopkins School of Education, is also a great way of rewarding your child. Apart from sincere words of praise, a reward could be a simple star, ice cream, or extra minutes to play before bedtime.

Parents like you are now juggling more responsibilities than usual. Yes, the new learning setup is a huge challenge. But, it is also a great opportunity.

It is an opportunity for you to spend more time with your little ones, teach them, and learn new things together. And who knows, you might learn new things from your child, too.

As you begin to see it that way, may you lean more on God’s wisdom. May you pray more and trust more, knowing that God will find ways to return your trust and prayers.

Be in faith that He will guide, lead, and protect you and your beloved child.

“The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” (Psalm 28:7 NLT)

Distance Learning: 5 Tips for Working Parents

One week into distance learning – how are your child’s studies so far?

If you are a working parent, how are you juggling your work-from-home setup while supporting your child’s education?

Do you also wonder and look for ways on how you can manage your full-time work and your child’s learning all at the same time? We got you!

Homeschooling mom and Beyond Small Talk host Felichi Buizon shares 5 practical tips to help you efficiently support your child’s learning while you work:

  1. Identify who is part of your team

You do not have to carry all the responsibilities all by yourself, especially when there are family members who are willing to lend a hand.

Don’t hesitate to seek help from other people in your household, or other people who can offer support. It could be your spouse, your child’s grandparents, or your child’s siblings. It could be your child’s teacher.

Identify who can help you and what help they can offer as you all navigate this new normal.

  1. Learn to delegate tasks and ask for help

Every person in your family has valuable knowledge that they can share to help ease the challenges of schooling at home. List down their names and delegate which tasks they can perform.

Those tasks can range from simply setting up your child’s internet connection or study space, up to explaining the learning modules to your child. Ask if they can also help with some household chores so you can set aside time for your work.

It would also be helpful if you will be transparent with your employer about your situation. You may need to make some arrangements with them about your schedule and workloadThat being said, Felichi appeals to employers to be more considerate to parents whose children are learning from home.

  1. Develop a schedule

Before the pandemic, you and your child are used to having school and work routines, respectively. Setting up a structured routine will help the both of you to “stay on track.

To Felichi, tools such as timers and alarms will help you diligently follow the schedule that your family has agreed on. While you’re at it, do not forget that rest and relaxation are important, too. Include breaks and family time into your routine to avoid burnout and to help you recharge.

  1. Design a learning space for your child and a workspace for you

Even when your home is not always conducive, you can try your best to make your child’s learning – and your work – more comfortable.

Designate a space that is quiet, well-lit, and what’s important these days – a space that has a signal so they can easily connect to the internet. Set up a corner where they can sit comfortably and is free from distractions.

  1. Dialogue with your child

Pay attention to your child’s concerns and ask them what they feel about distance learning. Initiate the conversation and listen intently to their struggles, needs, and feelings toward this new setup.

This is a good opportunity to connect with you child as both of you might be facing the same challenges of being at home. It’s a perfect time to show your child that you hear them, and that you are willing to encourage and pray with them to ease any worry they may have.

As Felichi puts it, “Be a parent first before being a teacher.

Parenting is a challenging role – and the current pandemic has made it even more challenging. But with proper planning, communication, patience, and a whole lot of prayers, you and your child can thrive through it.

Are you concerned about how you can support your child during distance learning while you work full time?

We would love to comfort you through prayers. Do not hesitate to call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8737-0700 or send in your prayer requests to our Facebook page.
