Now that schooling will be done differently because of the pandemic, you are probably thinking about what steps to take to support your child’s learning.
You might be wondering, “What will happen? What will schooling look like? Would it be efficient and effective?”
Worry not! Beyond Small Talkis here to help you!
Here are tips fromThe 700 Club Asia host and homeschooling mom, Felichi Pangilinan-Buizon, to help you guide your little ones as they navigate the new normal way of learning.
1. Familiarize yourself with the terms being used
Distance learning or homeschooling– is there a difference?
As the school opening nears, it would be helpful for parents to know the terminologies and jargon being used.
Instead of the regular classroom setup, the Department of Education(DepEd) will be implementing a distance learning approach. In distance learning, your child’s learning takes place at home, online, or through the help of take-home learning kits from school.
Distance learning is guided by a teacher through a gadget or computer. For students who do not have access to gadgets and internet connections, modules will be provided according to DepEd. Lessons will also be delivered via radio and television as an alternative mode of learning.
On the other hand, homeschooling is a way of learning at home wherein parents serve as the primary teacher. It is facilitated by parents using a curriculum based on the children’s interests or family’s lifestyle.
AsFelichi puts it, “Homeschool is more child-centered. But as they say, different families, different needs, different seasons.”
It is important to know and identify what would work best for your child.
2. Be willing to learn and be ready to brave challenges
Your child’s learning is not a one-man’s job. The government, teachers, parents, and children all need to work together to overcome the challenges that come with these new learning approaches.
“I know this is a challenge to us parents because there are things that we need to learn–or give up–to focus on our children’s education,”Felichi said.
Amid the worries and questions, it is important to ask God for wisdom and strength. Pray that He would bless and protect your child as your little one embarks on the new back-to-school scenario.
Trust that you and your child can do this, through His loving guidance.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”(Philippians 4:13 NIV)

Are you looking for ways to increase your income even amid this pandemic?
If yes, then you’re in the right place!
Here are Beyond Small Talk guests Vic and Avelynn Garcia to share with you 3 simple yet significant ways to help you learn more and earn more during this crisis.
1.Know God’s plan for your life
The well-known Jeremiah 29:11 verse says that God knows His plans for you, and His plans for you are good. But, do you know exactly what those plans are?
Knowing God’s plans and purpose for your life will help you realizeHis will for your finances. And how would you do that? By calling unto God – as told by the succeeding verses:
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV)
“Instead of calling the Lord, we tend to call our friends or someone who would lend us money. God becomes our last resort,” says Avelynn, emphasizing the importance of seeking God first before venturing into any business.
SeekGod and ask Him what venture you must take, when, where, and how you can take it.
2.Pray with all your heart
You don’t know what to do? Tell God. You have no idea how you would earn money? Tell God and ask Him for wisdom.
If you are wondering whether you should get a new job, put up a new business, or take another sideline – here’s the good news: God knows which path is best for you.
So before you plan your next step, Vic suggeststhat you pray with all your heart and ask, “God, can You tell me what You know so that I could do Your will?”He added, “With the limited time and resources that we have, we cannot afford to guess and commit many mistakes.”
3. Do not forget to give tithes and offering
During a financial crisis, it might be extra challenging to let go of any peso. Yet according to Avelynn, “Most of the time, you go broke because you do not give to God.”
When you allow God to intervene in your finances, He will surely bless your obedience. After all, all things work together for good to those who love God, isn’t? That is the same promise Malachi 3:10 brings:
“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’”
Are you asking God for wisdom about your finances?
With all that is happening nowadays, finding hope and staying positive has been a challenge for everyone. This is what inspired singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid to team up with another OPM icon, Moira Dela Torre, to compose a new song titled “Beautiful.”
The song was released last August 14 under Star Music, co-produced by CBN Asia’s music arm, Reverb Worship PH.
During his guesting on MOR Philippines Livestream last August 17, Ogie shared his inspiration behind the song, encouraged other artists to use their platforms to uplift people and God, and thanked everyone who streamed their music.
“It’s hard to see the beauty during this pandemic and that’s where faith comes in. That despite what we are going through, God has a plan. (https://www.hotelogix.com/) All we have to do is to trust Him. He’s teaching us to be patient and obedient. We will see the things that will come out of this, and all of that will be beautiful. That’s the very essence of this song,” Ogie said.
To Moira, who was touring abroad when they recorded the song, “Beautiful” is a reminder of God’s love, “This song is so timely and so powerful. It’s such an amazing reminder that despite all the storms, we serve a mighty and beautiful God who makes everything beautiful in His time.”
Hours before the release, the hashtag #BeautifulOgieMoira trended on Twitter. And as soon as the anthem hit streaming platforms, listeners were quick to react and praise its uplifting message. Both lyrics and melody caught the hearts of our kababayans and received positive comments.
YouTube commenter Jaque D. shared that songs like this could help people “overcome fear and fight anxiety and depression.” Maxine H., on the other hand, commented that it is “a great reminder of how good God is and how much He loves us all. A masterpiece indeed!” Bri H. revealed that the song got into her heart and she felt “so blessed and full after listening to it.”

OPM icons Ogie Alcasid and Moira Dela Torre are set to release a new song titled “Beautiful” – a melodic anthem about God’s light and love amid the pandemic. You can stream the song this August 14 on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Deezer, and YouTube!
For the first time, singer-songwriter Ogie shares the microphone with Moira in hopes of inspiring our kababayans who are dealing with the pandemic’s impact and to spread the message of God’s love, healing, and comfort in uncertain times.
“This pandemic has been the backdrop of this entire song. While we have been cooped up in our own houses, Jesus has been welcoming us to go back to Him. He has a plan and His plan is always beautiful,” Ogie shared.
Written from a place of personal devotion, “Beautiful” takes the listeners to a musical experience, declaration of praise, and a heartfelt prayer – all rolled into one.
“I started writing this song last year. It just came to me one day while I was playing some chords on the piano. The lyrics just started flowing as if the Lord was telling me that all that He has done for us is simply beautiful and glorious. I then asked Moira if she could collaborate with me and she even gave me suggestions on some of melodic lines,” Ogie recalled.
The song is released under Star Music, co-produced by CBN Asia’s music arm, Reverb Worship PH.
Reverb Worship PH seeks to produce music that celebrates and declares the unchanging love of God during changing times and give Christian artists a platform to create and perform songs that worship God and inspire people.
