When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Everyone is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but not all are affected in the same way.

Low-income families and communities in remote areas of our country are especially hit hard by the economic effects of the pandemic. Hunger and starvation are the bigger concerns for them, even more than the coronavirus.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Day by day, food insecurity intensifies. Poor households plunge deeper into poverty. The most vulnerable among us become even more vulnerable and in need of emergency food assistance.

To give you a clearer picture, a survey of the Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research Institute revealed that 62% of households experienced having little to no food amid the pandemic.

This alarming data has confirmed the magnitude of the hunger emergency gripping our kababayans. And while you are reading this article, the numbers continue to rise.

Do you know that with your help, we can support our most vulnerable kababayans and ease their suffering?

When hunger knocks, we respond with much-needed relief and prayers!

The residents of Santa Maria, Laguna witnessed our response to their great need when CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, visited their community last weekend.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Relief operations could not reach Santa Maria because of the community’s remote location. Residents needed to hike or ride horses for hours to reach the town proper. Children had to cross nine rivers every day just to go to school!

With the help of faithful partners like you and the DLL/SAGAD Off-Roaders group, the Operation Blessing team was able to brave the rough trails and heavy rains to get to Santa Maria!

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Hundreds of families received food items, hygiene kits, and cleaning materials. More than the material relief, the residents also had the opportunity to hear the comforting, saving love of Jesus through the team.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

“Everyone is struggling each day to survive. That’s why it is a huge blessing for them to receive this kind of help. They are very happy to be one of the beneficiaries of Operation Blessing,” shared Teacher Noel, one of the teachers who helped organize the relief operation.

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

Singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino is back with her newest song titled, “Kumapit.” The single which hopes to reassure Filipinos about the hope found in God amidst the pandemic is hitting the airwaves this Friday, June 11.

In Kumapit, Yeng sings about how God understands our worries, fears, and even anger during difficult seasons in life. The song is a solid reminder that we are never alone in our battles and that we can always hold on to God.

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

“This song is for people who are struggling with their faith and struggling to see hope. I pray that as they hear this song, they will feel God’s presence even more. There are things in this world that we don’t understand but one thing remains: God is good. And we have to hold on to that,” Yeng said in vernacular.

The OPM icon penned the song by drawing inspiration from the raw feelings she, her loved ones, and other people experienced, revealing that she, too, struggled with anxiety and depression when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country.

“I struggled with my mental health during the pandemic. It’s my first time to share this, but I undergo therapy for my depression. The pandemic increased my anxiety, sadness, and uncertainty.”

In these uncertain times, Yeng rediscovered that she can hold on to God and find hope, comfort, and strength – a beautiful revelation that can be heard in her latest single, Kumapit.

“My favorite lyric was ‘Hindi Siya yanig sa iyong galit.’ Sometimes we think that we can never ask God why things happen. God showed to me that He is not like that. He is a good father. So keep asking; God will not shush you. The more you ask, the more He reveals Himself to you,” Yeng shared. (https://avenuez.com)

The song is released under Star Music, co-produced by CBN Asia’s music arm, Reverb Worship PH.

CBN Asia’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John Valdes Tan said, “Reverb Worship PH has gone into a co-production agreement with Star Music to produce inspirational songs and our newest offering is called Kumapit. I believe that everyone who listens to Kumapit will be blessed by God through its beautiful melody and words of hope and grace.”

Pre-save “Kumapit” by Yeng Constantino today and stream the song on June 11, on Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and YouTube. Follow Reverb Worship PH on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for more updates.

Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness

Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness

Life during the pandemic is not easy, especially when you are forced to leave the job that feeds your whole family.

This is what our Aeta brother Rudy Dela Cruz experienced.

Rudy belongs to a tribal community in Tayabas, Quezon, and found a job as a construction worker in Barangay Putingkahoy, in Rosario, Batangas. Nearing age 60, Rudy still endured the heavy labor, for very little pay.

05182021_Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness_1

Life was already hard for their indigent family, but as soon as the pandemic razed the country, the father of four had to stop doing construction work.

“When I stopped doing construction work, what I did was to scythe bamboos. It was the only way I get to feed my four children. Then this pandemic hit us hard and we cannot even buy canned sardines,” Rudy recalled.

Can you imagine what it means to not afford food for your children?

Rudy can. And he realized that life had gotten even harder than before. No matter how many bamboos he scythes in a day, it is never enough to buy food for the whole family.

“We have no choice but to depend on the assistance we can get from the government or other people,” he lamented. He felt hopeless wondering how he can feed his hungry children in the coming days.

Thanks to your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, we can put an end to that.

Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness_2

Through your help, Rudy’s family, and many other residents of Rosario received much-needed food items. The team also prayed for the beneficiaries and encouraged hope among the families.

Rudy is grateful for the glimpse of hope you shared in the time he needed it most.

“This is a huge blessing to people like us who have no access to food because of the pandemic. Thank you so much for the timely response to our needs,” he said.

Rudy is just one of our many kababayans who live from day to day, hoping for more food tomorrow. Truly, the pandemic has affected our present situation, but we are not giving up on a better future!

For Our Pandemic-Hit Kababayans, Your Giving is a Blessing!

When an Operation Blessing volunteer handed over food bags to Rosemarie Fajardo last week, she cannot help but become emotional.

04222021_For Our Pandemic-Hit Kababayans, Your Giving is a Blessing!_1

Rosemarie and her family are among the tens of thousands of Filipino households who needed immediate relief right after the government declared another Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in different areas including the province of Rizal.

The ECQ brings safety for many, but to Rosemarie’s family, it means more days of enduring hunger.

04222021_For Our Pandemic-Hit Kababayans, Your Giving is a Blessing!_2

“We struggled a lot since the COVID-19 arrived, especially because my son suffered from a brain tumor and underwent operation when the pandemic first hit the country. His blindness was also an added burden to him,” the mother of 5 recalled.

Taking care of a child with a medical condition and wondering how to feed her other 4 children, Rosemarie struggled to make ends meet. They slipped deeper into uncertainty, waiting to find the light at the end of the tunnel.

Through your selfless giving, a ray of hope came through!

04222021_For Our Pandemic-Hit Kababayans, Your Giving is a Blessing!_3

With the help of Operation Blessing’s faithful partners like you and the DLL/SAGAD Off-Roaders group, pandemic-hit families in Barangay Canumay, in Antipolo, Rizal received the rice, canned goods, and other food items that would last for a week.

04222021_For Our Pandemic-Hit Kababayans, Your Giving is a Blessing!_3

Apart from the material relief they received, the residents were also blessed to hear the comforting, saving love of Jesus through the team. Rosemarie and their whole community received the message that there is hope and light amid any crisis.

Pandemic-hit Families Continue to Endure Hunger, Here’s How You Can Help

When President Rodrigo Duterte announced another enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, many people flocked to their local markets to buy food and other essential items for their families.

But to some, panic buying is a privilege they do not have.

04082021_04082021_Pandemic-hit Families Endure Hunger, Here’s How You Can Help_1

Such is the case for Jennily Non and her family who reside in Montalban, Rizal.

To the mother of 7 kids including a triplet, life was already a struggle long before COVID-19 came. Jennily and her husband make a living by scavenging a dumpsite in Montalban. No matter how hard they try to make ends meet, the quarantine forced them to stay at home and endure hunger.

04082021_04082021_Pandemic-hit Families Endure Hunger, Here’s How You Can Help_2

And now that another baby is on the way, they find it even harder to survive each passing day.

“Because of the ECQ, we cannot go outside to work and earn money to feed our children. We did everything, we even borrowed money, but we really do not know where to seek help anymore,” Jennily lamented.

Jennily’s family – and many other kababayans who are among the poorest – plunge deeper into poverty as the pandemic ensues.

04082021_04082021_Pandemic-hit Families Endure Hunger, Here’s How You Can Help_3

They are in addition to what National Economic and Development Authority Acting Secretary Karl Chua noted in an interview with CNN, saying that 3.2 million people in Metro Manila are hungry while 506,000 individuals remain jobless.

It seems like even though they persevere, they are caught between following strict quarantine measures and starving.

“As a mother, it hurts that I cannot provide the needs of my children. There are lots of sleepless nights. Because I work all day, there are lots of times when I would stay up all night to fill my shortcomings as a parent,” Jennily said, as tears streamed down her face.

04082021_04082021_Pandemic-hit Families Endure Hunger, Here’s How You Can Help_4

That’s why it was a huge help when Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, visited their community and brought much-needed relief.

Each family received hygiene kits, clothes, and food items that would last for a week. More than the material relief, the beneficiaries received the message of hope and bayanihan in times of crisis.

“We are very happy and thankful to know that there are people who are willing to help us. It’s a huge relief for us because we do not need to worry where to get food in the coming days,” Jennily said with a huge smile.

While your generosity has reached thousands of families in need, there are still more who are reeling from the pandemic’s overwhelming impact – especially those who are below the poverty line.
