Operation Blessing Responds to Earthquake in Turkey

Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, sent out a team of medical professionals to provide immediate medical assistance to the survivors of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey that left more than 4,000 buildings destroyed and killed 50,000 plus people. They also sent a team of staff and volunteers to help in the disaster response.

As the Turkish communities still experience shock and trauma due to a series of earthquakes, Operation Blessing conducted psychosocial activities for the traumatized children, helping them to process their grief and trauma through holistic mental health program.

Moreover, the team also arrived in Hatay and traveled to the city center where many survivors benefited from its medical services. The survivors in the area were given food boxes, water, and were provided emotional and psychosocial support, especially to those who had already lost their loved ones.

Currently, the Operation Blessing continues its medical assistance and relief efforts as many people remain in evacuation centers and need basic necessities and support to ease their pain and trauma caused by disaster.

‘We can start rebuilding our home’: OB helps fishermen’s families in Bohol

Families of fishermen who suffered from Typhoon Odette received construction materials like GI sheets and plywood from CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, last March 1 at Getafe, Bohol.

Ebsel Bone, a fisherman’s wife, was one of the survivors when Typhoon Odette devastated their province in 2021. The aftermath of the typhoon left them with just the clothes on their backs as they immediately evacuated to Jandayan Elementary School.

In the evacuation area, her family, together with other survivors, waited for help from the government.

“The government was quick to respond, providing us with a tarpaulin sheet to use as a roof,” Ebsel said.

The family did not have enough money to build a proper roof for their home, they used the tarpaulin sheet as their roof for months. When the tarpaulin sheet leaked, the family adjusted their sleeping positions to avoid getting wet by the pouring rain.

It was a good thing that Operation Blessing went to their community and chose Ebsel’s family as one of its beneficiaries for their disaster response project.

“Finally, we can start rebuilding our home, where we can feel safe and secure. Thank you, Operation Blessing!” said Ebsel.

In partnership with the 702nd CDC, 7RCDG, Reserve Command, 47th Katapatan Infantry Battalion, Tagbilaran City’s local government unit, and the Bohol Evangelical Pastors Association, Operation Blessing gave construction materials for the fishermen’s families and other survivors in Bohol so that they can build their homes and start anew.

Press, Media Influencers Meet Tanikala Actors at CBN Asia’s MediaCon

CBN Asia held a media conference for its much-anticipated Holy Week special—Tanikala presents Senior Moment and Kampihan, at Victory Quezon Avenue on Thursday, March 23.

These made-for-TV films will air this coming Holy Week, with Senior Moment showing on April 6, Maundy Thursday, and Kampihan on April 7, Good Friday, at 5 p.m. on GMA.

To give the audience a glimpse of the stories, the cast shared about their respective roles and how they personally relate to them. Senior Moment stars are present—Carla Martinez, Mari Kaimo, Hutch Perales, and Arcy Morfe, together with Kampihan cast namely Angel Guardian, Barbara Miguel, Jan Marini, Gerard Pizzaras, Neo Rivera, Carlos Canlas, CJ de Guzman, and Ellene Cubelo.

When asked about what it was like working on this project, actress Carla Martinez, who played Pilaring in Senior Moment, said that it is beautiful how Tanikala has produced a comedy story that tells the painful reality behind conflicts and heartbreaks in marriage.

Senior Moment is about a senior balikbayan couple—Pepe and Pilaring—who decided to retire to the Philippines and part ways after decades-long marriage. This story is written by Gina Marissa Tagasa and Icko Gonzalez, directed by John Valdes Tan.

“The beauty about the movie, this is why I want you to watch it, is because Tanikala comes out with something that is a comedy relief, but it’s actually born in pain,” she told the audience.

She added, “The characters’ situation is very painful, yet you can see that throughout the whole thing, there’s so much laugh, there’s so much comedy.”

Meanwhile, real-life couple Gerard Pizzaras and Jan Marini, who played husband and wife in Kampihan, answered questions from the press on how the story reflects their relationship.

“A real man shows respect to women, much more to his wife. The higher calling is to love her. The one who loves much must be the man,” Gerard said in vernacular.

Kampihan, written and directed by Icko Gonzalez, is about a group of joiners who ends up in a far-flung area of a fisherman’s village—followed by an experience that will change their lives forever as they learn lessons on family, acceptance, and self-identity.

“We had a great time at the MediaCon and we are grateful for this experience. Thank you, CBN Asia! I think people from all ages will learn many valuable lessons from these films. We met the actors and on Holy Week, we will meet their characters. We are excited, too!” content creator Elijah Tan shared.

Meanwhile, media partner Abante News Online wrote on their Facebook page, “CBN Asia will once again capture the hearts of viewers through its Holy Week Special, Tanikala. Every year, Tanikala features movies for TV that aim to inspire Filipino viewers.”

Join us this Holy Week! Watch Tanikala presents Senior Moment, airing on April 6, Maundy Thursday, and Kampihan on April 7, Good Friday, at 5 p.m. on GMA.

Tanikala Brings You Stories of Hope and Forgiveness with “Senior Moment” and “Kampihan”

CBN Asia’s much-anticipated Holy Week special, Tanikala, brings you two brand-new made-for-TV films about hope and forgiveness, with Senior Moment airing on Maundy Thursday, April 6, and Kampihan on Good Friday, April 7, at 5:00 p.m. on GMA.

In Senior Moment, seasoned actors Carla Martinez and Mari Kaimo tell the story of a balikbayan couple who decide to retire in their hometown in Batangas—and to everyone’s surprise—end their decades-long marriage.

In this dramedy, their characters, Pepe and Pilaring, are welcomed by neophyte burglars, Hutch Perales and Arcy Morfe, followed by a hilarious situation that changes their lives forever.

Thrilled about their first Tanikala role as husband and wife, the actors shared that they felt the deep connection to their roles and hoped that viewers would resonate with Senior Moment, too.

“That also happened to my marriage. I can relate to Pilaring because during a trying time in my marriage, I also felt that I was not appreciated anymore. There was a point that I wanted to end my marriage, but I thank God that He saved me and my marriage,” Carla recalled.

Meanwhile, Barbara Miguel, Karen Atendido, and showbiz couple Jan Marini and Gerard Pizzaras are back in another heart-tugging story in Kampihan.

They are joined by rising actors Angel Guardian, Neo Rivera, Carlos Canlas, CJ de Guzman, and Ellene Cubelo, who will play a group of travel joiners who accidentally end up in a remote fisherman’s village. This life-changing turn of events leads the group on a journey of discovering more about faith, family, and purpose.

Mang Fred loves his child very much and I could relate to him in that aspect. Like him, I try my best to protect my relationship with my children,” Gerard said. His wife Jan, who plays mother roles with ease, has a slightly different take on her role, “I can’t see myself having a laid-back life like Nanay Anita, but when it comes to parenting, we are both very hands-on and involved in the lives of our children.”

Senior Moment is directed by John Valdes Tan and written by Gina Marissa Tagasa and Icko Gonzalez, Kampihan is written and directed by Icko Gonzalez.

“Our hope is that Senior Moment will encourage viewers to reflect on the significance of marriage and inspire them to work towards building and maintaining strong and lasting relationships. In Kampihan, we aim to inspire others to find fulfillment in the knowledge that they are loved and valued by our Creator. These stories are ones that must be told, and we invite you to be a part of the journey,” Gonzalez said.

Witness stories of hope and forgiveness in Tanikala presents Senior Moment on Maundy Thursday, April 6, and Kampihan on Good Friday, April 7, at 5:00 p.m. on GMA.

Superbook Helps Parents Raise Godly Children

Are you looking for fun, meaningful, and safe activities for your little ones? Superbook brings you that and so much more!

With its exciting Bible adventures, children can learn biblical values even at a young age, helping parents to raise children who know God and His Word.

That is exactly what was affirmed as Superbook’s beloved robot, Gizmo, and the Super Crew visited the Super Kids and Super Parents from Ferndale Villas, Quezon City, on Gizmo on the Go last October.

Marcelo Lu, one of the board of directors of Ferndale Villas, and also one of the parents present in the event, mentioned how Superbook provided not only entertainment, but has also helped his children grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Superbook has been instrumental in the spiritual growth of my two children,” he said.

In more ways than one, Superbook has helped parents teach kids about Jesus and important life lessons that they will bring with them as they grow older.

“It has so many stories of characters in the Bible, even other characters who we are not familiar with,” Marcelo added.

True enough, as the Superbook episode “A Giant Adventure” was shown, kids in Ferndale Villas had so much fun watching and learning Biblical values from David’s life.

To make the day extra special, Gizmo danced and sang The Salvation Poem with all the children and prayed with them as they received Jesus in their hearts.

It was a fun and meaningful Saturday with Gizmo and the Super Crew! Just like Marcelo and his children, many more lives were touched by Superbook.

“We’re very grateful that Superbook was here. We know that it can spread the Good News and influence not only kids, but most especially adults who are not yet familiar with Superbook. This will have a very big impact as they grow older. Hopefully, in the future, when these kids become parents, Superbook can also be introduced to the next generation,” he added.

Gizmo on the Go continues to spread the love of Jesus to different places in the Philippines. Your kids can join the fun, too! (https://www.keithmcquirter.com/) Watch out for Gizmo on the Go’s next stop!

Superbook Partners with SM Cares in Raising Disaster-Ready Kids

Who says “disaster preparedness” is only for grown-ups?

Children from Barangka Ilaya Integrated Elementary School and Alay Pag-asa Foundation had fun learning about how to be disaster-ready with Superbook, in partnership with SM Cares’, “Gizmo on the GO!” last November 17.

The fun started with playing games and engaging in colorful activities to watching a Superbook episode, “Noah’s Ark.”

Tony Estrella Jr., the father of 4-year-old Lance, is glad that his son enjoyed the show!

“Watching shows like Superbook is very important because it inspires children to be a good person, to have good values, and to be respectful,” Tony said.

Apart from learning about good values, the children also learned how to better prepare themselves when disasters strike.

Since the Philippines typically experiences numerous typhoons annually, Superbook partnered with SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation, in teaching disaster resilience and preparedness to kids.

SM Cares representative, Angela Camins-Wienere, said, “We’re grateful for Gizmo on the GO! and the entire Super Crew for designing a special program for us that aligns with our SM Cares’ advocacies—one of which is community resilience.”

She added, “We usually target the vulnerable sectors, and that includes children. For we know that they are one of the most vulnerable.”

With the Super Crew and Gizmo on the GO! visiting different parts of the country, more and more children experience the saving love of Jesus Christ.
