Here’s How You Brought Free Medical Care to the Doorsteps of Your Kababayans in Tondo

Why do you wake up early in the morning?

Many Filipinos arise before daybreak so they can set off early for work, school, or household chores. Truly, it is a perfect time to start a long, busy day.

But for 67-year-old Teresita Lacaba, to get up early is to receive early blessings.

The mother left home early yesterday with hopes of getting first in the line of patients of Operation Blessing’s medical mission in Aplaya, Baseco Compound, in Tondo, Manila.

Family budget has always been tight, that is why a free medical checkup is Teresita’s only way to see a doctor without breaking the bank.

Just as she expected, a long queue of patients formed. Around 300 residents waited patiently—and through your kindness—received the medical attention that they need.

Teresita and some of your kababayans in Tondo received free medical, dental, and optical services—made more efficient with Operation Blessing’s state-of-the-art mobile clinic.

Volunteer medical personnel from 7th Civil Relations Group – Civil Relations Service, Joint Task Force NCR, Philippine National Police, and the barangay healthcare workers of Baseco, all worked hand-in-hand with Operation Blessing’s healthcare team to reach people in need.

More than the physical relief and medicines, the patients received the message of hope and God’s saving love through the ministry’s church partner, the Baseco Mission Church.

Teresita, who got her eyes checked and was given a pair of brand-new eyeglasses and some medicines, expressed her gratitude to the team and everyone who made the medical mission possible.

It touched her heart to know that there are people out there who care for them, who want to bless them and bring healthcare closer to their community.

“Thank you for making an effort to visit us here and help us. The free eyeglasses are a huge help to me. We hope more people like us will be helped through your mobile clinic and medical mission,” Teresita shared.

Help us help more!

Quake-Stunned Families in Abra Need Your Prayers and Helping Hands

It was a fine Wednesday morning for the residents of Abra who were just going about their usual routines. Light rain sizzle in the streets as the workers start their busy day, while others remained cooped up in their homes—oblivious to the tragedy that is about to befall the land.

Then a magnitude 7.0 earthquake jolted the whole province.

The next thing they know, everything they had was gone.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reports that the strong quake claimed lives, injured hundreds, displaced thousands, and damaged billions-worth of homes and infrastructures in Abra and northern parts of Luzon.

The whole province and nearby areas spent the following days in state of utter shock—hoping and praying that they could rise from the rubble again.

To share a ray of hope to quake-stunned families in Abra, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, swiftly deployed a disaster response team to conduct a rapid assessment and deliver lifesaving help.

Operation Blessing’s staff and volunteers braved their way to Abra and is set to reach survivors who are still reeling from one of the biggest earthquakes that shook the province.

The team has been coordinating and strategizing with the Local Government Unit to bring relief when and where it is needed most.

Through your prayers and support, we can help our kababayans get back on their feet!

How to cope after a disaster

6 Tips to Help You Cope with Disasters

Earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions. Typhoons and floods.

Disasters come and go—but can leave a lasting impact on people’s lives. They either inspire people to be resilient and prepare for the next calamities, or they cause stress and anxiety to those who are severely affected.

If you recently experienced a natural disaster, perhaps you would agree that it can take a heavy toll on people’s physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual health.

So, how do you cope when disasters strike?

Here are 6 things you can do to help yourself and your family overcome catastrophic events:

How to cope after a disaster

Tip #1: Take care of yourself

It may be hard to prioritize self-care during a disaster, but taking care of yourself is an important part of recovery. A healthy mind and body will help you think clearly and respond effectively to the urgent needs of your family.

So, make sure you continue with your normal routines such as eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. Doctors at Verywell Mind agrees and emphasized that practicing self-care will help you cope better physically, mentally, and emotionally.

How to cope after a disaster

Tip #2: Limit sources of stress

Isn’t it too tempting to watch the breaking news, to scroll down your newsfeed, and to know every update about an ongoing disaster?

Watching the news can help you stay informed, but too much of it can also bring feelings of hopelessness and stress. One of the most helpful steps you can take following a disaster is to limit your exposure to news.

This could mean lessening your exposure to visual pictures of the recent events and doing other activities that can bring you joy.

How to cope after a disaster

Tip #3: Talk about your feelings and experience

Voicing out your feelings to your family and friends on how this event has affected you can help alleviate stress.

Experts from Psychology Today back this up, sharing that simply talking about your problems and negative feelings can reduce physical or emotional distress and strengthen immune system.

So don’t hesitate to reach out. Encourage one another and build each other up! (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Tip #4: Seek professional help

Are you extremely disturbed about the recent disasters?

Not wanting everyone to know that you’re struggling is understandable. But if you feel that the stress is too much to bear, here’s something to comfort you: You don’t have to go through everything alone. (hydeparkrecords)

God wants you to seek help from others and trust that they can support you. Jesus could’ve done all the miracles during His time here on earth, yet He chose to empower His disciples to help and heal others (Matthew 10:1). In the same way, God can empower doctors and mental health professionals to help you go through this very challenging season.

How to cope after a disaster

Tip #5: Find ways to help others

You might be thinking, “Why would I help others, I just experienced a disaster!”

It might seem counterintuitive to help others while you are trying to recover from a disaster—yet studies from the Clinical Psychological Science Journal show that helping others can reduce your worries, uncertainties, and stress.

Alleviating other people’s suffering can give you a sense of purpose, a motivation that even amid hardships, you can make a positive impact on the lives of your kababayans. If you have the resources, you can partner with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines and lend a helping hand to those who are also severely affected by disasters.

How to cope after a disaster

Tip #6: Pray for your family and community

One of the best ways to rise above this disastrous event is to look out for each other, pray for one another, and lean on God as your source of hope and strength.

Matthew 18:20 NIV says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.”

In times like this, coming together in prayer and promoting peace encourage people not to stay in a place of despair. It is an opportunity to know God more and reassure yourself and others that He is your comfort in times of trouble.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NIV)

Batangas Fisherfolks to Set Sail Again After Receiving New Boats from Operation Blessing

For some people, a boat is just a means of transportation.

But for the fishermen of Taal, Batangas, a boat is a lifeline. Their entire livelihood depends on their fishing boats, and it helps them secure income for the basic needs of their families like food and shelter.

So when the Taal Volcano erupted two years ago and destroyed their boats—followed by the debilitating pandemic and series of strong typhoons—many fisherfolks in Taal struggled to make ends meet.

Even after two years, the effects of the disasters still linger on Batangueños whose livelihood solely depends on fishing. Most of them were forced to abandon their usual jobs and sought other means to earn income.

Thanks to your partnership with Operation Blessing, it’s time for Batangas fisherfolks to set sail again!

Twenty-two fishermen can now sail happily and continue their livelihood after receiving free, brand-new fishing boats from Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm.

This is part of the foundation’s rehabilitation program to help survivors of the Taal Volcano eruption in 2020. It is a huge relief for fishermen like Arnel, who expressed his deep gratitude after receiving his new boat that will surely revive their lost livelihood.

“Thank you, Operation Blessing! We will take care of the boats and we will make sure that they will last long,” Arnel said. (charleseitel.com)

Operation Blessing has provided nonstop recovery efforts for communities in Batangas, but there is still a lot to be done. Through your unwavering support, we can make sure that affected families can get back on their feet!

Partner with Operation Blessing today and together, we will continue to uplift our kababayans in Batangas.

Do You Trust God with Your Finances?

It’s easy to trust God when things are going well. But what do you do when you’re financially broke?

Breadwinner Mary Jane Estiller learned what it means to trust God when she struggled with her finances.

Like you, Mary Jane wondered how she can support her family with her meager income. No matter how hard she worked in the salon, the pay was never enough to cover for their family’s expenses. She worried even more when her father got sick.

“It was a very difficult time. I only had a small income, but my responsibility was huge,” Mary Jane recalled.

There were several times when she was left with no more money in her pockets and the only thing that she had was her faith in God.

Can you relate to Mary Jane’s situation?

Have you also experienced running out of cash, yet you still hope in God?

Like Mary Jane, your season of lack is a time where God’s provision is magnified. As she put her trust in God, resources began to pour in.

“I received financial support from my sister and brother-in-law from abroad. I also received tips from my clients at work,” she shared.

Her faith strengthened even more when one of her family members—who is a beneficiary of Operation Blessing—encouraged her to give to CBN Asia.

Apart from this motivation, God’s Word also inspired Mary Jane to support the ministry, “The Bible verse that spoke to my heart was Luke 6:38: ‘Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.’”

It comforted her weary heart that she can always put her trust in God who has the power to supply everything that is lacking in her life.

Mary Jane trusted God with her finances, and true enough, He answered her prayers.

Her father came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior and got healed from his sickness. Even though her father passed away after some time, Mary Jane was thankful that he had a personal relationship with God.

God’s provision did not stop there. Mary Jane got a new work assignment and would always receive additional incentives after reaching their monthly quota. She was also offered a higher pay which helped her get back on her feet!

Moreover, she received another provision; her sister supported her financially when she opened a small eatery—a blessing she never dreamed of, but she received because of God’s faithfulness.

“God fulfilled his promise that He will bless us,” Mary Jane said, who now juggles managing their Tapsilogan business and working as a freelance financial advisor.

Life is full of ups and downs but as Mary Jane continues to put her trust in God, God continues to take care of her and her household.

Do you still have a hard time trusting God with your finances?

Take heart and allow God to provide in ways you never even dreamed of. If you are ready to surrender to God, Mary Jane has an encouragement for you.

“If you don’t trust God in handling your finances, you tend to find a solution on your own like getting a loan without thinking it over. But when you fully trust God with your financial problems, you will kneel before Him in prayer and ask Him to provide for your needs,” Mary Jane ended.

Are you facing financial problems?

You can receive God’s peace today. Call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8-737-0-700 and our trained prayer counselors will reach out to you.

Your Gift Reaches and Comforts the Mangyans in Oriental Mindoro. Here’s How You Can Reach More!

For many families who experienced the rage of Typhoon Odette, it seemed like a miracle that they survived at all.

The typhoon was far beyond what they have expected and prepared for.

Not only did it tear down houses, submerge towns, and displace tens of thousands of families in its wake—it also crippled the livelihoods of many communities, making it harder for the affected individuals to rebuild their lives.

If the well and able people found it difficult to bounce back from the tragedy, just imagine how hard it must be for our most vulnerable kababayans, like the indigenous peoples.

Such is the case for Inaywon and her family.

Inaywon belongs to the Mangyan group who resides in the town of Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.

The floods have subsided. The devastating winds are gone. Three months have passed but Inaywon and the indigenous peoples in their community are still reeling from Typhoon Odette’s impact.

At this point, any kind of help would mean a lot.

Any relief brings hope that they can recover, too.

Thanks to your compassionate hearts and partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inaywon and her fellow Mangyans received much-needed help this week!

Your gift reaches their Mangyan Village in Sitio Lamak, Barangay Manaul, through Operation Blessing’s disaster response team, volunteers, and the support of Grace Foursquare Gospel Church and the 4th Infantry “Scorpion” Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Inaywon and hundreds of families received food bags, hygiene kits, sanitary napkins, as well as diapers for babies. Apart from material blessings, the beneficiaries received devotional books and prayers from the team.

The kids were in for a treat, too! They had fun with Superbook’s games, songs, and giveaway goodies.

“Thank you so much! Your help means a lot to us here in Sitio Lamak,” Inaywon shared.

Months have passed but many indigenous families are still facing the same challenges. Many are still without homes; some are uncertain where to get their next meal, while others wonder how to recover mentally from the helplessness brought by Typhoon Odette.

Together, we can reach and comfort more indigenous families!

Leaves are Greener and Life is Better for Operation Blessing’s Livelihood Beneficiaries

To say that livelihoods are affected during the pandemic would be an understatement.

For the last 2 years, countless of families have struggled with joblessness, hunger, and uncertainty. Fear gripped the young and old; life became harder for the most vulnerable. Those who are at the hem of poverty were only pushed further to the edge.

Just like the family of Romeo Mendoza, a senior citizen from Barangay Lumutan, in General Nakar, Quezon.

At 72, Tatay Romeo is one of those who bear the brunt of the pandemic. Apart from being at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and feeling helpless or isolated, it’s even harder for older people like him to find a job that could support his basic needs—like food and medicine.

The recent typhoons have also left a devastating impact on Tatay Romeo’s family.

Thankfully, no pandemic can stop you from sharing God’s love and spreading hope to your kababayans in need!

Because of your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Tatay Romeo and his neighbors received vermicomposting livelihood assistance last July 2021.

Operation Blessing braved the rough roads once again and visited the beneficiaries this week—thrilled to find out that the growth of their vermicompost is evident after only 7 months!

From 2 kilos each, they now have approximately 15 to 20 kilos of vermicompost, harvesting up to 1 sack of fertilizers per week.

Some of the beneficiaries happily shared that they are planning to use the vermicompost on their crops for this year’s planting season—April and May—instead of using synthetic fertilizers. To augment their income, they also target to market both the vermicomposting worms and fertilizers.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries also received much-needed medicines and words of encouragement from the team.

Tatay Romeo proudly shared that he harvested his mustard plants a week earlier than expected.

“The plants grew faster when I put vermicompost fertilizer, and the leaves are greener!” he said.

Praise God for your heart to better the lives of our most vulnerable kababayans!

Together, we can help more people rebuild their lives and make it greener—may it be through vermicomposting, fishing, farming, and many other types of livelihood assistance.

Families in Davao and Tacloban Felt Your Love through Operation Blessing’s Medical Mission

In a time of global pandemic, it is not only important to secure the health and safety of the people, but also to maintain their well-being.

Thankfully, no crisis stopped you from sharing God’s love to your kababayans, reaching people in need, and bringing healthcare closer to communities!

Through your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, you were able to deliver love, healing, and comfort to families in Davao and Tacloban.

Your kababayans in Community of Hope in Palanog, Tacloban received free medical, dental, and optical services—made more efficient with Operation Blessing’s state-of-the-art mobile clinic.

Volunteer medical personnel from the Philippine National Police, the DLL-Sagad Off-Roaders, and local church partner all took part in bringing medical support to both children and elders.

The kids felt “extra love” as the Superbook team spread hope, cheer, and goodies. Apart from the medical relief, the team prayed for all the beneficiaries and shared God’s saving love and encouragement!

The warmth of your love and care were also felt by your kababayans in Barangay San Jose in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

With the help of medical volunteers, Sto. Tomas local government unit, 89 Infantry Battalion, 1003rd Brigade 10ID, and Medical Battalion 10ID, the members of Ata-Manobo tribe received much-needed medical support.

Residents were offered free medical, optical, and dental check-ups, while tribal kids availed of free circumcision—a service that was halted for two years, since the pandemic started.

The team also reached Barangay Kinamayan where many families availed of free medical and optical checkups, tooth extraction, as well as circumcision for the boys.

The kids also enjoyed some snacks and received their “Ang Aklat ng Pag-asa” (The Book of Hope) booklets. The beneficiaries—young and old—all went home with warm smiles after receiving relief and prayers from Operation Blessing’s medical mission.

What an incredible way to celebrate and express love this love month!

Come rain or shine, Operation Blessing continues to be at the forefront of bringing help to our kababayans and sharing God’s love and comfort. And all these efforts are possible because of your help!

This love month and beyond, you can continue sparking hope to more communities in Davao, Tacloban, and across the country.

Here’s How You Brought Lifesaving Relief to Your Kababayans in Rizal

Mass vaccinations here and there, lockdowns lifted, and reopening of malls and face-to-face classes.

As the government slowly ease COVID-19 restrictions, you might feel as if the pandemic is over. You might feel that everything is going back to normal.

Here’s the truth: The pandemic is not yet over.

Weary and weakened Filipino families continue to go hungry as the crisis ensues. Food assistance is a vital lifeline for people who, after almost two years, are still reeling from the pandemic’s impact.

Many are still struggling to get by. Sadly, the current challenges have exhausted their resources and hope.

Thankfully, you stepped in!

Your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, helped bring life-saving relief and spark hope to indigenous communities in Rizal.

Through your generosity, 150 indigent families in Sapinit, Antipolo, have received much-needed food bags last week. Though masks covered everyone’s smiles, the disaster response team and off-road volunteers surely felt the happiness and gratitude of the beneficiaries!

Meanwhile, undernourished children in Sitio Kabuhuan, Barangay Puray in Rodriguez, Rizal have gained weight after months of daily feeding!

They are part of Operation Blessing’s Bless-a-Child program and are all given healthy meals every day to improve their health and well-being.

Operation Blessing’s medical volunteers visited the children to help their families address health concerns like common colds, cough, and rashes. The children also received free tutorials with their modular learning!

Join us in ensuring that no family is left behind.
