4 Keys to Unlock God’s Blessings Even During a Pandemic | Beyond Small Talk

“Where is God’s blessing in this crisis?”

As the whole world continues to grapple with the pandemic, you may have heard someone ask this question. Perhaps, you even asked yourself the same.

Although struggles are part of life, you can still thrive! God is more than willing to bless you, prosper you, and give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

Check out these 4 keys to unlocking God’s blessings amid crisis, shared by Farmer, Businessman, and Beyond Small Talk guest Dodong Cacanando.

1. Pray for your adversaries

While you are on the lookout for your next financial breakthrough, take a moment to pause and pray for that unideal situation you are in and for those who stand between you and your goals.

Dodong emphasized the power of praying for your enemies by retelling the story found in Jeremiah 29, “When God told the Jews that He has a plan for them, they were in Babylon. They were in exile. When they were in Babylon, God said, ‘For I know the plans I have for you, it is to give you a good future’. And I like what verse 7 says ‘pray to the Lord for that city.’

2. Remember that where God has placed you is a blessing

You might be looking around and pondering if you need to leave the place where you are right now.

Your current situation could be the very place where God intends to bless you!

Are you struggling at work? Perhaps God is teaching you something or shaping your character through the challenges you are facing right now. Do you have problems with your business? Maybe God is leading you to your next breakthrough.

Don’t give up! Ask God to lead you and keep on pressing on.

 3. Start where God placed you

Are you planning to start a business during this pandemic? Then ask yourself, “What resources do I have today? What are my skills and what other skills do I need to develop?”

Think: “What unforeseen good could come out from this crisis?”

Wherever you are right now, know that God placed you there. He placed you there for a reason! Your current location and situation might not seem ideal to you at first, but it’s time to trust Him that things will work together for good.

4. Take good care of what you have

“Take care of what you have right now because it is part of God’s plan for you,” Dodong suggests.

What do you have right now? Work on it and improve it. Take care of your relationships, resources, and skills. Most importantly, take good care of yourself.

Nobody knows when the tough times will be over, but one thing is certain: God is working even in the toughest times. Trust God that even amid crisis, your needs will be met and He will pour out blessings for you.

Here’s How You Can Pray for Our COVID-19 Heroes

When you were a child, like many of us, you probably looked up to heroes like those with supernatural powers in movies and television shows.

Or perhaps, celebrating National Heroes Day today makes you remember the brave patriots who fought for our country’s freedom.

Apart from these heroes whom you know by name, would you believe that there are still heroes today?

These modern-day heroes do not wear capes or written about in history books.

They work on the frontline, outside of their homes, to serve everyone even while the world is under the threat of COVID-19.

So today, take this time to honor and thank them through prayer. Here’s how you can pray for our COVID-19 heroes:

1. Pray for their Protection

With the new variants of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 is even greater today, especially for those working outside their homes.

But amid these threats, God is sovereign. Through prayer, you can help these modern-day heroes to seek God’s protection against COVID-19 or any sickness.

As you pray, declare, and believe that God’s help is always available, and He is present during trying times.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 NIV)

2. Pray for Strength

Even heroes get tired too.

In your prayer time, remember to claim the promise of God’s ability to renew the strength of all the essential workers who are sacrificially working every day.

As it says on Isaiah 40:29, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Pray that they will find a renewed strength in the presence of God.

3. Pray for Faith

More than anything else, COVID-19 heroes need faith to continue believing that there is still hope amid the situation.

As you pray for all the frontline service heroes tirelessly working even now, declare this Word from the Bible for them in Psalm 27:13, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

Do you know someone who is a modern-day COVID-19 hero?

Take a moment of prayer for their life and speak blessings of protection, strength, and faith for them this National Heroes Day.

Do you also need prayers? You may send your prayer requests to CBN Asia Prayer Center or call 8-737-0-700 or send in your prayer requests to our Facebook page.

Do You Want to Increase Your Income but You Don’t Know Where to Start?

Are you looking for ways to increase your income even amid this pandemic?

If yes, then you’re in the right place!

Here are Beyond Small Talk guests Vic and Avelynn Garcia to share with you 3 simple yet significant ways to help you learn more and earn more during this crisis.

1. Know God’s plan for your life

The well-known Jeremiah 29:11 verse says that God knows His plans for you, and His plans for you are good. But, do you know exactly what those plans are?

Knowing God’s plans and purpose for your life will help you realize His will for your finances. And how would you do that? By calling unto God – as told by the succeeding verses:

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV)

Instead of calling the Lord, we tend to call our friends or someone who would lend us money. God becomes our last resort,” says Avelynnemphasizing the importance of seeking God first before venturing into any business.

Seek God and ask Him what venture you must take, when, where, and how you can take it.

2. Pray with all your heart

You don’t know what to do? Tell God. You have no idea how you would earn money? Tell God and ask Him for wisdom.

If you are wondering whether you should get a new job, put up a new business, or take another sideline – here’s the good news: God knows which path is best for you.

So before you plan your next step, Vic suggests that you pray with all your heart and ask, “God, can You tell me what You know so that I could do Your will?” He added, “With the limited time and resources that we have, we cannot afford to guess and commit many mistakes.

3Do not forget to give tithes and offering

During a financial crisis, it might be extra challenging to let go of any peso. Yet according to Avelynn“Most of the time, you go broke because you do not give to God.

When you allow God to intervene in your finances, He will surely bless your obedience. After all, all things work together for good to those who love God, isn’t? That is the same promise Malachi 3:10 brings:

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Are you asking God for wisdom about your finances?

Allow us to join you in prayers. You may call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8-737-0-700 or send in your prayer requests to our Facebook page.

Hey there, Young People! Here are 3 Questions to Ask Yourself if You are Dealing with Peer Pressure

Hey there, Young People! Here are 3 Questions to Ask Yourself if You are Dealing with Peer Pressure

Do you always hear phrases like “Come on, just do it!” or “Don’t you want to fit in?”

You want to fit in, to be part of the group. That’s cool. After all, humans are designed to belong and connect with each other. But sometimes, people end up doing something they know they shouldn’t do just to fit in.

You’re not alone. Peer pressure is something that can happen to anyone. It happens to kids, even adults, especially to young adults like you.

While it is true that people are called to love their neighbors and know how to relate with them, does this mean that we should do anything just to get along with everybody?

Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you deal with negative peer pressure:

Question 1: “What will be the outcome?”

Right now, you are open to so many options, so many things, and your decisions could lead you anywhere.

If your friends are pressuring you into doing something you won’t normally do, ask yourself: “What is going to happen if I do this? Am I ready to accept the consequences?” Count the cost, consider the risks of giving in to the pressure. They can have serious consequences not just to you, but to other people as well.

Exodus 23:2 reminds people to not follow the crowd in doing wrong.

If someone is making you do something you’re uncomfortable with, it’s okay to say no.

It’s true that taking a stand for what is right might make people unhappy with you, but that’s ok. What’s important is you do what God wants you to do.

Question 2:Am I surrounded with the right people?”

The people around you help form your character. As the old saying goes, “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.”

So, if your peers are pressuring you into doing something you don’t want to do, or something that could hurt you, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself if you are with the right people.

Ask, “Am I with the right people that will help me get to where I want to be in this life, or this relationship would only lead me to destruction?”

Likewise, the Bible was clear that even the most well-intentioned individuals can be led astray by those with bad character.

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” (1 Corinthians 15:33 NASB)

That’s why it’s important that you surround yourself with positive influences – people who genuinely want the best for you and will help shape your behaviors according to what is good and pleasing to God.

Question 3: “Who am I trying to please?”

Contrary to popular belief, vulnerable people are not the only ones who can be pressured to do what the world wants over what God wants. Even those who have a healthy relationship with their families could fall to bad influences.

Why? People often fall into negative peer pressure because they think they could find happiness in social acceptance. But that kind of happiness is short-lived.

Gaining the approval of a corrupted world means giving up the true happiness that comes from God’s approval.

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10 NIV)

It’s never been easy living in a world full of pressure.

But don’t worry!

God will be with you. He is the best friend and companion because He will never pressure you in doing anything that is bad for you.

May you have the courage to stand your ground. Pray, and trust that God will always empower you to resist any temptation, any peer pressure.

“Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9 GNT)

Are you suffering from peer pressure?

parenting in the new normal

Parenting in the New Normal: 5 Tips to Survive and Thrive

Calling all parents!

How’s being a parent during the pandemic?

Even after a year and a half, parenting in the pandemic still seems like new territory for most. Juggling zoom meetings, guiding the kids with online learning while squeezing in all household chores. It still takes some getting used to.

Sounds familiar, right?

It’s no wonder why many moms and dads experience anxiety and burnout!

But don’t worry, you can do it! Here are 5 tips to help you survive and thrive parenting in the new normal:

1. Remember God’s character

When things are uncertain and unsteady, it is good to be reminded of who your anchor is — Jesus. Rediscover God through His Word and look back to how good He has been in your life before the pandemic and how He has been sustaining you until today.

Reminding yourself of God’s unchanging character will help you trust in Him during changing times.

2. Reach out to your children

Have you set regular check-ins with your family?

If you haven’t, you can start today! It is important to set aside time with your children and talk about their feelings, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) suggested.

Take time to sit down with everybody and ask, “How are you? How are things going? How are you doing? Do you need help?” Use that information on how you can help them adjust to the new normal.

3. Communicate with your employer

Some parents are uncomfortable to talk to their employers about their parenting responsibilities.

However, if you are having a hard time taking care of your children recently or you need more time to adjust to the new normal, may need to make some arrangements with them about your schedule and workload.

Exchange Family Center recommends that you try to offer a schedule that works for you. At the end of the day, it would be helpful if you are transparent with your employer about your situation.

4. Find time to take a break

Self-care is important, even before the pandemic, and all the more for parents now. Take time for yourself, rejuvenate, and model that for your children as well.

To take good care of your children, start by taking care of yourself.

5. Cover your children in prayer

Many things have changed since the pandemic started, and they will continue to change from day to day. But God’s love for you and your children will stay the same!

Prayer is the greatest weapon you can give them. So, pray for your child and with your child. Ask God to protect, strengthen, and give each one of you the wisdom you need as you all face the new normal. Pray for joy and lasting peace.

Parenting during the pandemic isn’t for the faint-hearted. But with the help of your loving God, you got this. The new normal is here — so as God’s new mercy every morning. (https://www.nectarpd.com/)

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Are you concerned about how you can survive and thrive in parenting during the new normal and beyond?

We would love to comfort you through prayers. Do not hesitate to call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8737-0700 or send in your prayer requests to our Facebook page.

How to Prepare for a Natural Disaster During a Pandemic – National Disaster Resilience Month

How to Prepare for a Natural Disaster During a Pandemic – National Disaster Resilience Month

July is National Disaster Resilience Month in the Philippines to promote preparedness among Filipinos during catastrophes.

During a pandemic, disaster preparedness is more complex now. So, here are some tips that can help you and your family be disaster-ready while on a public health emergency:

How to Prepare for a Natural Disaster During a Pandemic – National Disaster Resilience Month

1. Ready your enhanced emergency kit

Aside from the basic emergency and food supplies kit that includes food, water, clothes, radio, first aid supplies,  flashlights, whistles, and important documents, you would need additional supplies.

Ready.gov  recommends adding COVID-19-related necessities such as masks, face shields, and prescribed medicines to your emergency kit.

It is important to maintain the emergency kit, always check if the medicines and food supplies are not expired. Keep the kit in a cool dry place.

Keep your emergency bag easily accessible in case of an emergency evacuation.

2. Follow the minimum health standards

After preparing your supplies, learn the basic practices against COVID-19,  just in case you would need to evacuate to a safer, but more public area.

To help you remember these practices, the Department of Health’s (DOH) BIDA Ang Solusyon sa COVID-19 promotes the four behaviors to fight the virus:

B – Bawal walang mask

I – I-sanitize ang kamay, iwas hawak sa mga bagay

D – Dumistasya ng isang metro

A – Alamin ang totoong impormasyon

By doing BIDA, you ensure the safety of your whole family in a disaster during a  pandemic.

3. Pray for God’s help

Above all these preparations, you need God. Typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other catastrophes are uncontrollable situations, but God is always in control. So leave it all to God through prayer!

You can always seek God’s protection amidst unprecedented times of pandemic and calamities.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” (Psalm 46:1-2 NLT)

07022021_5 Tips to Maintain a Work-Life Balance for Dads this Pandemic – Beyond Small Talk

5 Tips to Maintain a Work-Life Balance for Dads this Pandemic – Beyond Small Talk

Work-from-home.

This is probably one of the most used terms these days since the start of the pandemic. This may sound like an ideal setup for many people, but most fathers have found working from home very challenging.

From your experience, do you agree that working from home sometimes blurs the line between work-related tasks and your personal time at home?

Don’t worry, amazing Dads. Beyond Small Talk is here for you!

Working dad Ardy Roberto shares these 5 tips on how you can achieve a work-life balance in this new normal:

Tip #1: Ask God for wisdom

Working and raising a family at the same time is hard. Don’t worry, you can do it with God’s help!

Always seek God’s wisdom not just for your work-related decisions but, more importantly, also for your relationships with your loved ones.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV)

Tip #2: Be intentional in spending time with your loved ones

Quantity time is quality time.

Set specific times for spending with your wife and kids.

A walk in the park every morning, a bike ride after your kids’ online classes, eating dinner together are a couple of examples of activities you can do to bond with your family every day.

It does not have to be grand. Your presence is more than enough to create a quality bond between you and your family, especially during this pandemic.

Tip #3: Communicate with your family

As they say, “Communication is key.”

Always be open with your loved ones about your work situation. Give your family a heads up on your schedule at work.

There will inevitably be times when you will be extra busy at work or on your business, and that’s only natural. With proper communication with your family, you can achieve understanding with them.

Tip #4: Stay true to your word and keep your promises

As the busy season at work comes to an end, be faithful in your commitments to your children and your spouse.

If you promised that you will spend the dinner time with your family, do your best to stick to it. If you said that you will help the kids with their homework that night, help them.  Let them know that they can count on your word.

Remember, small fissures of broken promises could lead to cracks of broken trust.

Tip #5: Be a good example of hard work and excellence

Working from home means your children can see your efforts to provide for the family. It is an opportunity to show them the true meaning of hard work and excellence.

Be a man who is a role model at work and at home.

Don’t worry if you fail at being the best dad sometimes. Truth is, there is no perfect father here on earth.

The great news is that there is a perfect God who leads you in being the head of your family. So, seek God’s help in keeping your work and family life balanced in this new normal.

Do you find these tips helpful in achieving your ideal work-life balance?

5 Things Parents Can Do to Support their Child’s Gifts and Talents

What is your child good at?

How do you help them nurture their gifts and talents?

Parents, more than just having your own hopes and dreams for your child, it is important to encourage them to follow their own dreams and help nurture their talents.

If you are wondering how you could support your child’s pursuit of their dreams, Papuri! artist and Beyond Small Talk guest Rommel Guevara shares 5 things that can help you bring out your child’s best:

1. Be motivated by love

Are you pushing your child to excel in areas that they are not genuinely interested in?

It is understandable why many parents would want to have a say in their child’s life. They want their children to succeed. However, this practice can do more harm than good.

Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz of Child Mind Institute says that pushing kids to do things they don’t like can lead to anxiety disorder or learning disability.

Perhaps, it is time to examine your own motivations for pushing your child in a certain direction. When you want to support your child’s best interest, it is always best to be motivated by love.

2. Let them know that you support their dreams

Does your child know that you’ve got their back?

Discover your child’s gift and interests, and intentionally show your support!

“When our daughter was born, we prayed to support her dreams. We do not want to pressure her into doing ministry work, just because her parents are in the ministry. We let her discover her passions as she grows up,” Rommel said.

3. Don’t withhold discipline

It is good to give your child the freedom to choose their own path. Likewise, parents are called to guide their children (Proverbs 22:6). Fantastic parents are those who learn how to strike a balance between freedom and discipline.

Rommel shared, “We should support our children, but that doesn’t mean tolerating them when they are doing the wrong things. Love and support come with discipline.”

Remember, you can show your love and support by setting boundaries.

4. Support their talents and interests

What makes your child unique?

Sometimes, you need to step out of your comfort zone to help your child explore their gifts and talents.

Encouraging them through words is great! But there are also times when you need to show your support by providing them the tools, materials, and supplies that will further nurture their talents.

Simply put, your wallet will be involved – which leads us to point number 5.

5. Provide financial support

To Rommel, moral support is wonderful, but it is better if parents can also support their children’s interests financially.

So, if the budget allows, do not hesitate to bless your child with the equipment and materials they need. After all, you are investing in the life of your loved one!

But what if the budget is limited?

Parents, it is best to rely on your limitless God.

“Thankfully, God only entrusted our children to us. Our children’s real Father is in heaven,” Rommel said. “So, when it comes to the financial needs of our daughter, we ask God for provision. He will supply the needs of our children.”

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 ESV)

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Are you one of the many people who are forced to work from home because of the pandemic?

If you are, then this article is for you!

Working from home has numerous benefits. No more commutes and rush hour traffic. No more worrying about your outfit of the day (OOTD). You don’t even have to wear shoes!

On the other hand, while working from home means you can work on your bed, boundaries between work life and non-work life are now blurred.

You can no longer leave work at the office when you go home. This could be a challenge. You could either feel burnt out or not get anything done. Worse, you could feel burnout without getting anything done!

For International Work from Home Day, here are 5 tips that can help you overcome the challenges of working from home:

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Tip #1: Have a designated and consistent place for your work

First things first, give yourself a dedicated workspace. It doesn’t have to be a new room; it could be a small corner. Just somewhere quiet, well-lit, and free from clutter and distractions.

Although not everyone has the luxury to set up a home office, it is important to choose a spot in your home where you can do your work and leave it there when the workday is done.

Tip #2: Set a reasonable schedule

Harvard Business Review’s article, 5 Ways to Work from Home More Effectively, gave sound advice: Set a schedule to provide structure to your day and to help you stay motivated.

In other words: Set up a doable schedule and try your best to stick to it.

Consider your schedule like you’re working in an office. What is acceptable at work, what’s not? What are your deliverables for the day? List them down. And remember to schedule your breaks!

Tip #3: Set boundaries

Here’s a scenario: You are in a zoom meeting, swamped with work when an unexpected visitor came knocking at your door.

What do you do?

One of the biggest challenges of working from home is that work-life boundaries can get blurred. Your friends and loved ones might think that you are free to do personal errands anytime because, after all, you are just at home.

That is why it is important to set boundaries and communicate them to everyone in the house. Explain that you are working and that you need time to focus on your work. Let your household members know that you are off-limits during your scheduled work hours.

Tip #4: Celebrate your wins

If you have ticked an item off your to-do list, go ahead and celebrate!

Life during the pandemic can be quite overwhelming. Acknowledging what you have accomplished – whether they are big or small – is a great way to encourage yourself.

Verywell Mind says that appreciating even your small wins can also boost your self-confidence and motivate you to achieve more.

So, what can you celebrate today?

Tip #5: Engage in self-care

One year into the pandemic and work from home setup, how are you holding up?

If you are feeling down, know that you are not alone.

According to the report Workforce Attitudes toward Mental Health, 96% of respondents said that the pandemic has affected their stress levels. If you can relate to that, perhaps it’s time to slow down.

It is best to carve out time to care for your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Get enough sleep, eat healthily, and find time to exercise — even during work! For instance, Verywell Fit suggests that you stretch your arms and legs every 45-55 minutes and rest your eyes.

Also, make time for relaxing activities, for your loved ones, and for prayer.

Give thanks to God for His sustaining grace and allow yourself to just rest in His presence. Pray for strength and wisdom.

Pray and believe that God will help you to not just survive – but to thrive while working from home.

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

Father’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many people, for many different reasons.

Most people grew up with a supportive, loving dad – which makes them eager to celebrate Father’s Day. However, not everyone is blessed with the same situation.

For some, the day serves as a painful reminder of years of neglect, abuse, and abandonment.

Here is the truth: All dads fail at one time or another. They are human, just like you. They make mistakes too.

But, find comfort that there is one Father who will not fail you – your Heavenly Father. The gospel of John says God is your father, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12 NIV)

When you accept God as your true and perfect father, it will change everything. He can help you see past your hurts and your tainted view of your earthly father. He can give you the heart to accept that, just like all of us, fathers are not perfect.

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

The good news? It is never too late to rebuild your relationship with your dad!

This Father’s Day, here are 5 ways that can help you develop a better connection and restore your relationship with your father:

1. Ask God for a humble heart

If your relationship with your father has been broken or you just grew distant from each other over the years, it might be hard for you to reconnect even when you wanted to.

So, seek God’s help. Ask God to humble your heart and clothe you with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12).

When you humble your heart and choose to restore the relationship, then you have taken the first steps toward your healing and reconciliation process.

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

2. Remove the root of bitterness

Bitterness hardens the heart. It is contagious and it affects not just you, but everyone that surrounds you. To heal, let go of bitterness and embrace grace.

The Bible gives both a warning and an encouragement about the root of bitterness.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV)

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

3. Forgive even if forgiveness was not asked for

Forgiveness is a crucial step to healing a broken relationship. Will it be easy? Not likely.

But, through Christ, you can be granted the grace to forgive. God loves you and has forgiven you so that you can extend the same love and forgiveness to your father.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15 NIV)

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

4. Choose love

“Hurt people hurt people.”

Have you heard this phrase before? It is quite applicable to this situation. If you are struggling to forgive your father, chances are, he is struggling too.

Sometimes, it is hard to love. But love is the answer. Ask God to bless your heart with a love like His. Choose to love your father, just as your Heavenly Father loves you (John 13:34).

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

5. Be thankful
