Your Compassion Reached Beneficiaries in Caloocan through Operation Blessing’s Medical Mission

Thanks to your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, we can bring free basic medical care closer to our kababayans in need!

Manned by volunteer health workers and church partner, Operation Blessing’s mobile clinic delivered free medical, dental, optical, circumcision, pharmacy, and grooming services to an underserved community in Caloocan last week.

Because of your love, prayers, and support, around 300 beneficiaries who belong to low-income families received free medical support at JCSIA Worship Center in Caloocan City.

Your compassion has reached twice the usual number of patients we serve during medical missions in Metro Manila!

Apart from bringing medical relief, the team also prayed for the beneficiaries during the counseling—hoping to bring healing not just for their body, but also for their souls.

Thank you for making this possible and thank you for sharing God’s comfort to the people of Caloocan!

Here’s How You Can Help Build Classrooms for Indigenous Students and Make their Dreams Come True!

Almost half a year into 2022, what have you learned so far?

For many indigenous Filipino families, this year has shown the impact of education. An ongoing pandemic, hunger, and devastating natural disasters amplified the struggles they already face—forcing them out of the classroom.

Yet despite the odds, they are not giving up hope. They are determined to go to school.

Angel Poypoy is one of them. She dreams of a better future not just for herself and her family, but also for her fellow Mangyans in Sitio Sinariri, Oriental Mindoro.

“I want to become a doctor. Every time I see someone who is sick, it pains me. I want to help them,” Angel expressed.

Like Angel, many girls and boys in their community dream of a better life even though their situation is challenging. Even before the pandemic, the students had to walk down the mountains just so they could go to school.

Teacher-in-Charge Arnel Villesa of Sinariri High School witnessed the hardships of their students who belong to the Hanunuo-Mangyan tribe.

“I saw the struggles of the students in our community. They would walk 2 to 3 hours just to go to school. They also need to work; they need to earn money so they can support their schooling and help their families,” teacher Arnel shared.

On top of the personal struggles of the students, they continue to miss quality education opportunities because of lack of classrooms.

Sinariri High School was built in 2019 by the Local Government Unit. To accommodate all the students, they had to divide the rooms using thin wooden partitions.

Can you imagine how difficult it was for students to concentrate on their lessons while hearing all the noises from the other side of the room?

Angel and her schoolmates have endured this situation. And now that the students are back to face-to-face classes, they are once again faced with the same dilemma: overcrowded and uncomfortable learning spaces.

Thankfully, your support to Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, has blessed the schools and students with new classrooms!

Operation Blessing partnered with the Local Government Unit of Mansalay to reach one of the farthest areas in Mindoro and build additional classrooms for the indigenous students.

Once the classrooms are built, the students won’t be distracted anymore nor forced to travel for hours. Instead, they can focus on their lessons and spend more time with their families!

To the teachers of Sinariri High School, the construction of new classrooms inspires them more to help the students reach their dreams.

“They didn’t only give us inspiration—they also gave us the motivation to persevere,” Teacher Arnel gratefully expressed.

And to students like Angel, it is a symbol of hope. A symbol that dreamers like her can attain formal education and become a doctor someday.

“This is very important for us so we can have better classrooms and not be compressed in small rooms. Thank you so much Operation Blessing and to everyone who helped us!” Angel ended.

Want to Bring Smiles to Indigenous Communities? Partner with Operation Blessing!

Are we able to reimagine a world where food, healthcare, and hope are available to all?

It’s a great vision, a beautiful prayer for the Philippines. However, the reality is that most vulnerable Filipinos still endure food shortage, lack of access to affordable healthcare, and extreme feelings of hopelessness.

Such is the case for the family of Gemmalyn Barcil.

Gemmalyn is a member of the Dumagat tribe, one of the indigenous groups residing in the mountainous province of Rizal. She has been suffering from excruciating dental pain for weeks but could not afford to visit a dentist.

They live too far away from the city and like many low-income indigenous families, they spend their hard-earned money on food, with nothing left for healthcare.

At this point, getting her aching tooth out seemed impossible even if she wanted to.

“I couldn’t go see a dentist because it is expensive to avail of dental services such as tooth extraction; I am also concerned about the distance I have to travel and endure just to reach the city,” Gemmalyn narrated.

That is why it has been a huge relief for their family when they heard about the medical brigade of Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm.

Volunteer doctors, dentists, and CBN Asia’s Superbook team worked hand-in-hand with the Local Government Unit of Canumay and Sitio Mapedya, Bravo Company of 84th Infantry – Victorious Battalion, Philippine Army, faculty of Mapedya Elementary School and First Baptist Church of Papaya.

The team braved hours of travel, crossed rivers, and trekked the mountainous areas of Rizal and Nueva Ecija to bring much-needed medical services to both children and elders.

Dumagat and Igorot families in Rizal and Nueva Ecija received free medical, dental, optical, and circumcision services—made more efficient with Operation Blessing’s state-of-the-art mobile clinic.

They also received free haircuts and took home food items that they can share with their families.

The kids were in for a treat, too!

Gizmo and the Superbook team brought cheers and smiles to the faces of little children. They enjoyed film shows, exciting games, and even danced along with The Salvation Poem.

Apart from the medical and material relief, the team prayed for all the beneficiaries and shared God’s saving love and encouragement!

To Gemmalyn, it was a rare yet hope-filled experience—a day she will always cherish with her tribe.

“I am so thankful for this opportunity to have my tooth extracted for free. I am happy that Operation Blessing came to Canumay to give us medical services that we cannot afford. Thank you for coming here despite the unfavorable weather and the steep roads,” Gemmalyn shared.

“Without Relief Goods, We Would Starve to Death.” Typhoon Agaton Survivors Need Your Prayers and Help

The residents of barangay Abuyog and Baybay couldn’t do anything but watch as the raging flood waters sweep away their houses.

Sheila Salanawon couldn’t believe the tragedy right before her eyes.

Her family and her neighbors were crying, some were screaming, while others remained speechless as the catastrophic floods brought by Typhoon Agaton wiped out everything on its path.

“The people were screaming because the flood was sweeping away our houses,” Sheila recalled.

All they could do was to pray for their lives to be spared from the imminent danger and for the water to subside. But when it finally did, the next scenes were more devastating.

All their houses were swept away, and everything was covered in mud. Some areas remain submerged in flood. For the residents, it was a scary sight to behold.

“I am distressed that we lost our home but as others say, what’s important is that we are still alive,” Sheila said, trying to hold back tears and comfort herself.

Together with other survivors, her small family temporarily seeks shelter in an evacuation center in a nearby barangay. They rely on relief goods after losing everything they had.

Sheila shared, “Relief goods are very important to us right now because without them, we would starve to death.”

Thankfully, Operation Blessing visited their community and distributed much-needed relief. Sheila’s family and a thousand others received food bags in Abuyog and Baybay, in Leyte.

Apart from the material relief, the survivors also received prayers and words of encouragement from the team and the volunteers who dedicated their Holy Week to share God’s comfort to those in need.

The residents heard the message of hope that one day, with the help of God, they can all get back on their feet.

After receiving immediate relief, Sheila became more hopeful and shared a message to the team, the volunteers, and faithful partners who continue to support disaster-stricken families.

“Thank you so much, may God bless you all!”

Now that Typhoon Agaton has already left the country, Sheila and other typhoon survivors were left wondering about how to rebuild their lives.

3 Thoughts to Ponder When You Find it Hard to Give

What comes to your mind when you hear about someone in need?

Do you think someone else will help them, or do you ask yourself how you can help?

Some people find it hard to give to those in need due to a lot of personal reasons. And if you, too, are struggling to lend a helping hand, here are 3 thoughts to ponder that can help you cultivate a generous heart, from Tanikala: Tugon sa Dalangin—an Operation Blessing Special:

Thought #1: “God will provide for my needs.”

Do you hold on to your resources with an iron fist, or an open hand?

Sometimes, people want to give but find it hard to give because of fear. Fear of losing resources. Fear of not having enough for yourself and for your loved ones. Fear of the future.

If fear keeps you from giving, it’s time to ask yourself: Do I trust that God will provide for my needs? Do I truly believe that God will take care of me?

Tugon sa Dalangin featured the story of sisters Janine and Rheine Doña. In the wake of Typhoon Odette, they offered prayers and encouragement to their neighbors—in faith that God will comfort them, too. Their family received relief items when Operation Blessing visited their community.

Trusting God with your needs can free you from fear. Next time you struggle to give, pray. Remember that God loves you and has a better life for you. As you care for others, trust that God will take care of you too.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 NKJV)

Thought #2: “My giving is not in vain. God sees me, God is glorified.”

Some people struggle to give because they feel that their money, time, effort, or love won’t be appreciated.

Whenever you feel this way, ask yourself: What is my motivation behind my giving? Do I believe that God sees me?

If you give to receive praise from other people, there is a high chance that you’d be let down. But when you fix your eyes on Jesus—on being a vessel of His love and grace—you can be assured that your giving is not in vain.

This is what volunteer dentist Dr. Marissa Pascua believes. She joined Operation Blessing’s medical mission in Tacloban where she met Marilou Fabi—who was suffering from severe toothache. Upon receiving free dental surgery and medicines, Marilou concluded that it was God’s hand that led the volunteer doctors to their community.

God appreciates and is pleased with your small acts of kindness. God is glorified by your wholehearted service to others.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 4:10-11 ESV)

Thought #3: “Any help, no matter how small, can change lives.”

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed by the needs of the world that it feels like there is nothing you can do to make a difference? So instead of giving, you hold back—because you think it won’t change anything anyway.

Try to avoid thinking that what you give is not good enough. Focus on the reason why you are giving: Do I give to glorify God? Do I believe that every good thing I have is entrusted to me by God? Do I trust that God multiplies whatever I give?

For instance, giving a small amount to typhoon-affected families may not change their life instantly, but it will give them the food they need to survive the day. In the midst of their helplessness and hunger, receiving any help gives them hope that God answers their prayers.

Instead of finding a job in the city, teacher Irene Bertudez of the Dumagat tribe in Quezon chose to give back to her community. Amid the pandemic, she prayed for school supplies that they can use for modular learning. Her prayers were answered through Operation Blessing partners. These acts of giving continue to inspire Dumagat children bit by bit each day.

So next time you hear of a need and you can do something about it—even if it seems small—give it a try. In the end, you also benefit. God blesses you with a deep sense of joy and purpose that only comes from giving.

“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11-12 ESV)

Your Gift Reaches and Comforts the Mangyans in Oriental Mindoro. Here’s How You Can Reach More!

For many families who experienced the rage of Typhoon Odette, it seemed like a miracle that they survived at all.

The typhoon was far beyond what they have expected and prepared for.

Not only did it tear down houses, submerge towns, and displace tens of thousands of families in its wake—it also crippled the livelihoods of many communities, making it harder for the affected individuals to rebuild their lives.

If the well and able people found it difficult to bounce back from the tragedy, just imagine how hard it must be for our most vulnerable kababayans, like the indigenous peoples.

Such is the case for Inaywon and her family.

Inaywon belongs to the Mangyan group who resides in the town of Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.

The floods have subsided. The devastating winds are gone. Three months have passed but Inaywon and the indigenous peoples in their community are still reeling from Typhoon Odette’s impact.

At this point, any kind of help would mean a lot.

Any relief brings hope that they can recover, too.

Thanks to your compassionate hearts and partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inaywon and her fellow Mangyans received much-needed help this week!

Your gift reaches their Mangyan Village in Sitio Lamak, Barangay Manaul, through Operation Blessing’s disaster response team, volunteers, and the support of Grace Foursquare Gospel Church and the 4th Infantry “Scorpion” Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Inaywon and hundreds of families received food bags, hygiene kits, sanitary napkins, as well as diapers for babies. Apart from material blessings, the beneficiaries received devotional books and prayers from the team.

The kids were in for a treat, too! They had fun with Superbook’s games, songs, and giveaway goodies.

“Thank you so much! Your help means a lot to us here in Sitio Lamak,” Inaywon shared.

Months have passed but many indigenous families are still facing the same challenges. Many are still without homes; some are uncertain where to get their next meal, while others wonder how to recover mentally from the helplessness brought by Typhoon Odette.

Leaves are Greener and Life is Better for Operation Blessing’s Livelihood Beneficiaries

To say that livelihoods are affected during the pandemic would be an understatement.

For the last 2 years, countless of families have struggled with joblessness, hunger, and uncertainty. Fear gripped the young and old; life became harder for the most vulnerable. Those who are at the hem of poverty were only pushed further to the edge.

Just like the family of Romeo Mendoza, a senior citizen from Barangay Lumutan, in General Nakar, Quezon.

At 72, Tatay Romeo is one of those who bear the brunt of the pandemic. Apart from being at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 and feeling helpless or isolated, it’s even harder for older people like him to find a job that could support his basic needs—like food and medicine.

The recent typhoons have also left a devastating impact on Tatay Romeo’s family.

Thankfully, no pandemic can stop you from sharing God’s love and spreading hope to your kababayans in need!

Because of your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Tatay Romeo and his neighbors received vermicomposting livelihood assistance last July 2021.

Operation Blessing braved the rough roads once again and visited the beneficiaries this week—thrilled to find out that the growth of their vermicompost is evident after only 7 months!

From 2 kilos each, they now have approximately 15 to 20 kilos of vermicompost, harvesting up to 1 sack of fertilizers per week.

Some of the beneficiaries happily shared that they are planning to use the vermicompost on their crops for this year’s planting season—April and May—instead of using synthetic fertilizers. To augment their income, they also target to market both the vermicomposting worms and fertilizers.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries also received much-needed medicines and words of encouragement from the team.

Tatay Romeo proudly shared that he harvested his mustard plants a week earlier than expected.

“The plants grew faster when I put vermicompost fertilizer, and the leaves are greener!” he said.

Families in Davao and Tacloban Felt Your Love through Operation Blessing’s Medical Mission

In a time of global pandemic, it is not only important to secure the health and safety of the people, but also to maintain their well-being.

Thankfully, no crisis stopped you from sharing God’s love to your kababayans, reaching people in need, and bringing healthcare closer to communities!

Through your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, you were able to deliver love, healing, and comfort to families in Davao and Tacloban.

Your kababayans in Community of Hope in Palanog, Tacloban received free medical, dental, and optical services—made more efficient with Operation Blessing’s state-of-the-art mobile clinic.

Volunteer medical personnel from the Philippine National Police, the DLL-Sagad Off-Roaders, and local church partner all took part in bringing medical support to both children and elders.

The kids felt “extra love” as the Superbook team spread hope, cheer, and goodies. Apart from the medical relief, the team prayed for all the beneficiaries and shared God’s saving love and encouragement!

The warmth of your love and care were also felt by your kababayans in Barangay San Jose in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

With the help of medical volunteers, Sto. Tomas local government unit, 89 Infantry Battalion, 1003rd Brigade 10ID, and Medical Battalion 10ID, the members of Ata-Manobo tribe received much-needed medical support.

Residents were offered free medical, optical, and dental check-ups, while tribal kids availed of free circumcision—a service that was halted for two years, since the pandemic started.

The team also reached Barangay Kinamayan where many families availed of free medical and optical checkups, tooth extraction, as well as circumcision for the boys.

The kids also enjoyed some snacks and received their “Ang Aklat ng Pag-asa” (The Book of Hope) booklets. The beneficiaries—young and old—all went home with warm smiles after receiving relief and prayers from Operation Blessing’s medical mission.

What an incredible way to celebrate and express love this love month!

Here’s How You Brought Lifesaving Relief to Your Kababayans in Rizal

Mass vaccinations here and there, lockdowns lifted, and reopening of malls and face-to-face classes.

As the government slowly ease COVID-19 restrictions, you might feel as if the pandemic is over. You might feel that everything is going back to normal.

Here’s the truth: The pandemic is not yet over.

Weary and weakened Filipino families continue to go hungry as the crisis ensues. Food assistance is a vital lifeline for people who, after almost two years, are still reeling from the pandemic’s impact.

Many are still struggling to get by. Sadly, the current challenges have exhausted their resources and hope.

Thankfully, you stepped in!

Your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, helped bring life-saving relief and spark hope to indigenous communities in Rizal.

Through your generosity, 150 indigent families in Sapinit, Antipolo, have received much-needed food bags last week. Though masks covered everyone’s smiles, the disaster response team and off-road volunteers surely felt the happiness and gratitude of the beneficiaries!

Meanwhile, undernourished children in Sitio Kabuhuan, Barangay Puray in Rodriguez, Rizal have gained weight after months of daily feeding!

They are part of Operation Blessing’s Bless-a-Child program and are all given healthy meals every day to improve their health and well-being.

Operation Blessing’s medical volunteers visited the children to help their families address health concerns like common colds, cough, and rashes. The children also received free tutorials with their modular learning!

Your Compassion Has Reached Typhoon Odette Survivors in Bohol, Palawan

One month has passed since Typhoon Odette wreak havoc in the country and brought torrential rains, catastrophic winds, and landslides.

The strongest typhoon of 2021 did not spare billions worth of agriculture, infrastructure, and homes. Thousands of our kababayans in Visayas and Mindanao were displaced; others are seeking immediate relief and hope.

The year has changed but one thing remains: Families affected by Typhoon Odette are still reeling from its impact.

Norma Bulilan could still vividly recall the shock and hopelessness she felt when she saw the ruins of their home.

The 49-year-old mother is just one of the residents in the coastal community of Panaytayon, Tubigon in Bohol who lost their home and livelihood during Typhoon Odette’s onslaught.

“The day after Typhoon Odette hit, I left the evacuation site and went back to check our home. Seeing that our house was one of those that have been destroyed, I said, ‘My God, what would we do now?‘” Norma recalled.

Just like her neighbors, Norma was clueless as to how they can survive each day and rebuild their lives, “I don’t know where to start. Our house and everything were washed out. My only prayer now is for God to help us recover.”

Your prayers and donation to Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, have helped the ministry conduct nonstop relief efforts to survivors of Typhoon Odette.

Norma and hundreds of families in Bohol received food bags, hygiene kits, and clean drinking water. Operation Blessing’s disaster response team, together with church partner Christ the Redeemer Evangelical Fellowship, also travelled by boat to reach our kababayans living in the island communities of Jandayan, Nasingin, and Pandanon in Getafe, Bohol.

You also helped us reach typhoon-affected families in Palawan!

In partnership with the local government units of Palawan, Port Barton Marine Park, Foursquare Church, and the 6th Civil Relations Group, Palawan – Civil Relations Service Armed Forces of the Philippines, Operation Blessing distributed food supplies to the residents of San Vicente and Roxas.

Many of them are depending on relief goods to survive, that’s why your gift of food supply and constant prayers matter a lot.
