How to Forgive a Family Member Who Hurt You Deeply?

Forgiving someone who has hurt you is never easy. It’s already hard to forgive when it’s a friend or someone outside the family — but what if it’s your own family?

Someone you see every day, live with, or share the same blood with?

The struggle is real. They say the people you love the most are the ones who can hurt you the deepest.

So, what can you do when forgiving a family member feels impossible? Here are some simple tips that might help you take the first step toward forgiveness:

1. Acknowledge the pain they caused

Sometimes, people try to excuse the hurtful actions of family members just because they’re family. You might hear things like, “Don’t take it to heart,” or “Just ignore it.” But ignoring the pain doesn’t make it go away — it only hides it until one day it might explode.

The first step to healing is to admit that you are hurt. When you’re honest about your feelings, you open your heart for God to heal you and help you forgive.

The Bible says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). God sees your pain. Talk to Him and let Him lighten the burden in your heart.

2. Ask God to help you forgive

After admitting your pain, the next step is to ask God to help you forgive. Forgiveness is not easy, and we cannot always do it on our own. But God can give you the strength you need.

Just pray and be honest with God. Tell Him you want to forgive, but you’re struggling. God honors a humble heart, and He will help you. Remember, we are also called to forgive others because God has forgiven us (Luke 6:36).

3. Talk to the family member who hurt you

Good communication is important in any relationship, especially with family. If a family member hurt you, it’s important to have an honest conversation with them — not to attack, but to share how their actions affected you and to help heal the relationship.

It might be hard, but it’s a way of showing love because, as the Bible says, “love covers over many sins” (1 Peter 4:8).

When you speak, be honest but gentle, and be willing to listen to what they have to say. Humbling yourself to talk and listen shows that you care about keeping the relationship strong.

4. Let go and let God

After talking to them, remember that you cannot control how they will respond. Your part is to be honest, loving, and forgiving. If they apologize and want to make things right, thank God!

But if they don’t respond the way you hope, don’t lose heart. Let go and let God handle the rest.

Pray for them and trust that God has a plan for both of you. “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

How to Lead Like Jesus: 3 Practical Steps

What does it really mean to be a leader and lead like Jesus?

According to Vocabulary.com,A leader is the one in charge, the person who convinces other people to follow.

Most definitions of a leader describe them as the head, the first, a ruler, a manager, or a decision-maker. In summary, a leader holds the highest authority in a specific group.

But what does the Bible say about leadership?

Matthew 20:26 (CEV) states, “But don’t act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others.”

Did you notice the difference? The world defines a leader as someone with the highest authority, while the Word of God says that a leader must be a servant to all.

One key quality of a leader is humility to serve. And this principle comes from the greatest leader of all time—Jesus. He didn’t just teach servant leadership; He modeled it Himself.

If you want to be a leader, here are three practical ways to lead like Jesus, based on a Beyond Small Talk episode with Jericho Arceo, Paul Herrera, and Peter Kairuz.

Lead Like Jesus – Step #1: Know yourself

First, you need to understand who you are. Here are some questions to help you with that.

• What are your strengths and weaknesses?

• Why do you want to lead?

• What causes do you stand for?

• How can you serve the people?

• What do you still need to learn?

• Do you have a vision for the people you want to serve?

Leadership should not stem from selfish ambition or a desire for power—it should come from a genuine desire to serve others.

Paul emphasized, “I always believe that knowing yourself is winning half the battle. Sometimes, the reason it’s hard to lead others—even ourselves—is that we don’t truly know who we are. We don’t know our purpose, our identity, or where we’re headed. But once you do, leading becomes much easier.”

Lead Like Jesus – Step #2: Know the people you want to lead

The key here is understanding them on a personal level. These questions might help you accomplish this step:

• What generation do they belong to?

• What issues and problems are they facing?

• How open are they to change?

• What changes do they want to see?

• What are their weaknesses?

• Where do they excel?

• What do they value the most?

• What do they dislike?

Peter emphasized, “You have to understand them. That’s important.”

Knowing your people helps you understand how to lead them effectively. It’s difficult to lead people who don’t trust you. That’s why getting to know them on a deeper level can make or break your leadership. A good leader recognizes the unmet needs of their people and helps equip them to address those needs.

Most importantly, listen to them—so they know that you genuinely care.

Lead Like Jesus – Step #3: Surround yourself with the right people

Jericho shared, “For me, the people in my circle matter. I need to surround myself with those who are wiser and smarter so I can learn from them.”

Similarly, Peter added, “If you want to be wise, surround yourself with the wise.”

With that in mind, to grow as a leader, you must be around people who are more experienced or accomplished than you. Their wisdom—gained from years of trial and error—can help you avoid making the same mistakes.

After all, people often say, “Experience is the best teacher.” However, sometimes, learning from others’ experiences is even better than going through them yourself.

Peter put it this way: “Listen to older people’s advice. Not because they are always right, but because they have made more mistakes. Let’s learn from them so we don’t have to go through the same struggles.”

So, are you ready to be a servant-leader?

Indeed, it’s rare to find people who sincerely want to serve others. That’s why it’s admirable to hear it from those who genuinely mean it.

If you’re one of them, let this be a reminder that leadership comes with challenges. Even Jesus was betrayed and denied by some of His own disciples. This, in turn, shows that the road ahead won’t always be easy or smooth.

That’s why it’s always important to abide in God and lean on His word when making decisions. The Holy Spirit will be with you to guide and help you, too.

Ultimately, more than just the desire to serve, lead because God is calling you to do so. Because in the end, man’s ultimate goal is not to seek people’s approval but to hear the Lord say:

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!” (Matthew 25:23, NLT)

5 Promises of God for Strong Women Like You

Are you feeling discouraged? Depressed? Worthless? If so, then these five promises of God are especially for you.

Moreover, are you exhausted from always being “strong and independent” for yourself and others?

It’s completely understandable. After all, the pressure of being a woman can be overwhelming at times.

But here’s the good news—when you feel weak, ready to give up, or as if no one understands you and you’ve been left behind, there is Someone who will always stay by your side.

And that Someone is God. No matter what, He stays, and His love endures forever.

So today, take a moment to rest and be reminded of these beautiful promises of God for you.

As Proverbs 4:20-22 (TPT) says:
“Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say. Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.”

Are you ready to be refreshed? If so, here are five promises of God just for you:

1. You are a masterpiece

First and foremost, you are not an accident, and you are certainly not a mistake.

You are God’s beloved and His masterpiece.

Yet, in today’s world, there is so much pressure to meet society’s standards of the “perfect woman.” And if you don’t measure up? The world quickly makes you feel like you’re not enough.

But pause for a moment—who truly defines beauty?

The answer is your Creator. He formed you fearfully and wonderfully (Psalm 139:14), shaping every detail of who you are.

As Psalm 139:13 (TPT) beautifully says: “You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.”

2. You are capable

Have you ever whispered these words in your heart?

“God, I can’t do this.”
“God, choose someone else instead.”

How about this one?

“God, others are better than me.”

If so, you’re not alone. Many of us have felt the same way.

The truth is, on your own, you might struggle. But here’s the good news—you’re never alone.

God wants to be your partner; He desires to walk alongside you and help you. When you allow Him to guide and strengthen you, you will accomplish more than you ever imagined.

So remember, you are capable—not because of your own strength, but because you are “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10, NIV)

3. You are chosen

Have you ever felt left out? Unwanted? If so, you’re not alone—many have experienced that same ache.

But here’s something powerful to hold onto: Do you know who chooses you every single day?

God does.

In His eyes, you are worthy, accepted, and deeply loved. Even when others turn away, His love remains constant.

Yes, people may walk away, but remember this—man’s rejection is often God’s redirection and protection. What feels like a setback is often a setup for something greater.

As Proverbs 3:5 (TPT) reminds us: “Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make.”

4. You are worth pursuing

Have you experienced heartbreak once again? Does it feel like love keeps slipping through your fingers?

No one can truly describe how being brokenhearted hurts, but here’s the truth: You are worth pursuing.

Never forget this—Jesus pursued you by giving up His life (Galatians 1:4), and that’s how important and valuable you are.

Wait for God’s best.

5. You are unconditionally loved.

Have you ever read this?

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” (Romans 8:38, NLT)

Powerful, isn’t it?

Among all these Bible promises, one central theme stands out—LOVE.

That’s what God wants you to experience today.

Reading this is not a coincidence.

God allowed you to come across this message to remind you that you are loved, and that will never change.

No matter your past mistakes, failures, or regrets—God still accepts you.

Believe it because it’s true.

Defy Unrealistic Beauty Standards Using these 3 Biblical Truths

Beauty is subjective. Everyone has their own definition of what it means to be beautiful, and this definition changes over time.

How about you? How do you define beauty?

In Western countries, being thin and tall, and having light or tanned skin, is considered beautiful. It is widely known that in South Korea, having fairer skin is considered “yeppeuda” (beautiful). But here are some beauty standards around the world that you rarely hear about because they receive less representation in the media:

How about in the Philippines? What are the common beauty standards you know?

The world has different definitions of beauty, and each person has their own preferences. Some find morena (tan-skinned) women more attractive, while others prefer fair-skinned people.

This only proves that everyone can be beautiful, but you cannot be beautiful to everyone.

Aside from that, people change. As time goes by, their opinions, beliefs, and principles change, too.

But there is Someone who is unchanging—He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the Lord of lords and the King of kings—Jesus.

Wouldn’t it be wise to understand what is beautiful in His sight and conform to that?

Here are three biblical truths that can help you focus on what truly matters—the kind of beauty that lasts for eternity.

Biblical Beauty #1: A woman who fears the Lord

“Charm can be misleading, and beauty is vain and so quickly fades, but this virtuous woman lives in the wonder, awe, and fear of the Lord. She will be praised throughout eternity.” (Proverbs 31:30, TPT)

Why should a woman who fears the Lord be praised?

If you have read the entire chapter of Proverbs 31, you will see that more than half of it describes the characteristics of an ideal, godly woman. Upon reflecting on it, you will understand why a woman who fears the Lord is worthy of praise.

Here are some of her qualities:

  • “She is clothed with strength and dignity.” (Proverbs 31:25)
  • “She speaks with wisdom.” (Proverbs 31:26)
  • “She takes good care of her family and is never lazy.” (Proverbs 31:27)

The good news is you can be like her too.

Biblical Beauty #2: The unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Peter 3:3-4, NIV)

This verse is a beautiful reminder that the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit is of great value in God’s eyes.

Although 1 Peter 3:3-4 is directed towards wives, we can also take this message to heart because Jesus is our bridegroom (Revelation 19:7-9), and the Lord, our Maker, is our husband (Isaiah 54:5).

But what does it mean to have a gentle and quiet spirit?

It does not mean that someone should be silent all the time or act fragile that you cannot even break a plate. This is not to be taken literally.

Notice that the word “spirit”follows “gentle and quiet.” This means it has nothing to do with your personality but rather with the state of your heart and soul.

This verse emphasizes having a gentle heart that is compassionate and a quiet soul that is not anxious but trusts in the Lord’s sovereignty.

The unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit does not rely on outward appearance but is rooted in confidence in God’s perspective.

Biblical Truth #3: Chosen and accepted by the Lord

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV)

For context, this verse refers to a conversation between God and Samuel about King Saul.

Saul was handsome, tall, and physically appealing—qualities that made him the people’s ideal king. At first glance, even Samuel was impressed by his outward appearance.

But as time passed, Samuel was disappointed because Saul’s heart was not pure before the Lord. Though he had exceptional abilities, his intentions were not right.

That is when God told Samuel that He had rejected Saul as king.

What is the point of being physically attractive if God rejects you? It is far better to be accepted and chosen by the Lord than to base your worth on outward appearance.

This does not mean to say that all attractive people are like King Saul. The point is a person’s heart matters more to God than physical appearance. No external beauty can ever conceal what is truly inside.

All these biblical truths point to one thing: Conform to God’s beauty standard, which never changes—unlike the world’s ever-changing standards.

Because no matter what others say about your appearance, the truth is, even before you were born, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14, NIV)

Know how valuable you are by getting to know the One who created you. Start your journey here.

Epic Love Stories in the Bible and the Important Life Lessons it will Teach You

In these love stories in the Bible, you will see how the people loved and what they were willing to do for love.

Love is one of the most powerful stories ever told, and the Bible—one of the most influential books in history—is filled with epic love stories that transcend time.

So, here are some epic ones!

Can the modern generation relate to their ways? You’ll find out as you read on.

Love Story in the Bible #1: Samson and Delilah’s story teaches us to strengthen our hearts in the Lord

Samson was the infamous long-haired man, also known for his unrivaled physical strength. He tore a lion apart with his bare hands, escaped from two ropes tied around him as if they were mere threads, and killed thousands of Philistines without any help—except God’s.

But aside from his physical strength, he was also known for falling in love with the wrong women.

Samson fell in love with Delilah, and she became the key to the Philistines’ revenge against him. She was on the enemy’s side, and the worst part was that Samson knew it.

They weren’t married, but they shared private and intimate moments together. And during those times, Delilah constantly asked him where his strength came from.

The first time she asked, Samson didn’t give her a straight answer. The second time, he still gave her the wrong answer. The third time! He still didn’t reveal his secret. But this time, Delilah used the classic “Do you really love me?” card.

Delilah nagged and pressured Samson every day. That’s why he gave in and told her everything: “My hair has never been cut. If it is shaved, I will become as weak as any other man.”

That night, Delilah put Samson to sleep on her lap and called someone to cut his hair. Right then and there, Samson’s strength left him.

Why did Delilah do it? It was all because of money. While Samson loved her more than he should and bared his heart to her, Delilah betrayed him and sold him for her own selfish gain.

Even though Samson was gifted with extraordinary physical strength, his heart was not steadfast in the Lord—the most important thing of all. As Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Another lesson from this story is, don’t romanticize things or people that pull you away from God. Samson only learned this lesson when he was captured and blinded.

And for one last time, he asked the Lord for strength so he could avenge himself.

Do you know what God did? He showed up, once again. Despite everything Samson had done, the Lord gave him the strength he needed—until his last breath. Samson failed God, but God never failed him.

This is a reminder for all of us: In our pursuit of being strong, it is best to stay firm and faithful in loving God. And we do that by constantly and intentionally choosing Him above all else.

(Reference: Judges 14-16)

Love Story #2: Ruth and Boaz’s story teaches us the gift of second chances if we remain faithful and loyal

When Naomi’s sons died, she was left with her two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah. Not wanting them to share in her misfortune, Naomi urged them to return to their families, as she had nothing left to offer them. Orpah said her goodbyes, but Ruth chose to stay.

She declared, “Don’t force me to leave you; don’t make me go home. Where you go, I go; where you live, I’ll live. Your people are my people, your God is my God. Where you die, I’ll die, and that’s where I’ll be buried.” (Ruth 1:16-17 MSG)

You often hear these words at weddings—but rarely between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.

Little did they know, Ruth’s loyalty would lead her to a second chance. A second chance at love, a life of abundance, and a family of her own.

She met Boaz.

Wealthy. Honorable. Respected. Popular. A man of God. In short, he was the ideal man.

One day, Ruth was working in Boaz’s field, gathering leftover grain alongside his female workers. Impressed by her hard work, Boaz asked his foreman, “Who is that woman?”

The foreman told him about Ruth, and Boaz recognized her for her kindness to Naomi. He praised her, and soon, she earned not just his favor but also the admiration of the town. Ruth had an outstanding reputation.

Boaz approached Ruth and spoke to her kindly.

Overwhelmed by his generosity, Ruth asked, “Why are you so kind to me?”

Boaz replied, “I’ve heard all that you’ve done for your mother-in-law since your husband died. I know you left your parents and homeland to live among strangers. May the Lord bless and reward you for taking refuge under His wings.” (Ruth 2:11-13 MBB05)

And that was the start of their love story.

Long story short, with Naomi’s guidance, Ruth and Boaz got married and were blessed with a son.

The lesson? Be a person of virtue—faithful and loyal even when it’s difficult. You never know what doors will open when you remain faithful and loyal.

(Reference: Ruth 1-4)

Love Story #3: Jacob’s love for Rachel teaches us how to persevere despite deceit

When Jacob left home, he stayed with his uncle Laban, who had two daughters—Leah and Rachel. Leah had expressive eyes, but Rachel caught Jacob’s eyes.

Jacob helped Laban with his daily tasks, and after a month, Laban asked what he wanted. Because Jacob loved Rachel, he offered to work for seven years in exchange for her hand in marriage.

Laban agreed, and Jacob served him for seven years. But for him, those years felt like only days because of his love for Rachel.

After seven years, Jacob asked for Rachel. Laban prepared a grand wedding, and that night, Jacob slept with his wife.

But it wasn’t Rachel—it was Leah. He only realized the deception the next morning.

Imagine working so hard for years, only to be tricked like that.

Laban explained that the eldest must marry first and proposed another deal— Jacob could have Rachel, but only if he worked another seven years. If that were you, would you trust Laban again? Jacob did—because he loved and truly wanted Rachel.

And after 14 years, he finally married her.

Would you do the same? Could you love someone that much? And what about Leah—can you relate to her?

Whatever your answer, one thing’s for sure—Jacob found Rachel worth it. His love for her was so strong that he endured everything.

(Reference: Genesis 29)

But did you know there’s another beautiful love story in the Bible?

Jesus’ love for you.

If you’ve noticed—there’s no perfect person, so there’s no perfect love story.

Samson was betrayed. Ruth was a widow. Jacob was deceived.

And you know who else can relate? Jesus.

He was denied. Mocked. Beaten. Crucified. All because of His love for you.

Yet, just like how Samson got his vengeance, Ruth found love again, and Jacob finally married Rachel—Jesus rose from the dead.

These stories may seem like they failed in love at some point, but they became the greatest victories in history.

You can take part in this story. Start by knowing Jesus.

Sewing New Hope and Dreams for the Women of Marawi

When it comes to armed conflicts, it is not about who is right, but who is left.

This rings true for the people who witnessed and survived the siege in Marawi. When the Marawi siege broke out in 2017, hundreds and thousands of families were left wondering how to rebuild their lives.

Amid the massive displacement, damaged properties, and disrupted livelihood and peace, the survivors managed to rise from the rubble with the help of the government and humanitarian organizations, such as CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines.

For many women in Marawi, sewing became a regular source of income. However, it all came to an abrupt end when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country last 2020.

Once again, these women and their families were left to face another struggle, reeling from the pandemic’s impact. Some of them were forced to sell food instead, while others struggled to make ends meet.

As the resilient women of Marawi try to restore their livelihoods, Operation Blessing extends support once again!

Ten beneficiaries received sewing materials and equipment—including brand-new edging machines. These machines will help improve product quality and durability, making them more attractive to buyers and possibly, increasing the women’s income.

It has been a long road to recovery, but together, we can help more women and families rebuild their hopes and dreams by reviving their livelihoods.

Join us in this journey. You may make a one-time or monthly gift through cbnasia.com/give, or Operation Blessing’s donation channels. For more information on how you can support, call 09399215543 or 09189067753.

There’s no stopping Superbook from sharing the gospel with the children all over the Philippines!

The Superbook team brought the fun-filled event Gizmo on the GO! at To God Be The Glory Christian Academy in Zambales. Many children from the Aeta community attend this school.

The day was filled with joy as the students arrived. They couldn’t hide their smiles and excitement! Everyone eagerly participated in the games and activities.

The highlight for many was watching the Superbook episode He is Risen, which tells the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection to save mankind from sin and death (John 19-20). This timeless Bible story not only taught them life lessons but also led them to receive Jesus in their hearts.

Fifteen-year-old Rijanaly shared her thoughts after watching Superbook. “Having Jesus in our lives is important, especially when we face tough times. I also learned to love and obey my parents,” she said.

Teacher Romalyn Ladringan shared that Superbook is an effective tool in teaching God’s Word to children, “It’s crucial to instill God’s Word in children so they can carry these lessons with them throughout their lives.”

The students’ excitement soared when their beloved robot friend, Gizmo, joined them. Together, they joyfully danced and sang along to The Salvation Poem. They also prayed a heartfelt prayer to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, making the day more meaningful for them!

The children also received loot bags filled with yummy snacks and Superbook gifts.

Through Gizmo on the GO!, CBN Asia not only brought a joyful afternoon to the children of the Aeta community but also sowed seeds of faith, hope, and love. CBN Asia Launches Superbook Cebuano, Empowers Churches to Reach More People for Jesus through Social Media

With hopes of empowering ministers and touching the lives of young Cebuanos, CBN Asia flew to the heart of Cebu and launched Superbook Cebuano, and conducted social media evangelism workshop in Robinsons Galleria Cebu, last October 7.

Bannering the title, “Growing Your Ministry through Social Media,” former CBN Asia Digital Media Manager Sheena Mangunay shared the best practices in maximizing social media platforms and tools to reach more audience and share the gospel online.

The workshop inspired 23 dedicated participants from Victory churches in Cebu to unveil the aspirations of their ministries, understand their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

They revisited their ministry’s vision, mission, core values, goals, and the audience they aim to reach. Ultimately, they received tools that can help them craft a customized social media growth strategy.

Clouie Lastima, one of the participants, couldn’t help but express her heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable experience she gained during the workshop.

“This is one for the books. It’s been an incredible privilege to hear directly from Miss Sheena. Her insights and strategies, especially on using social media to serve the Lord and our community, have been incredibly inspiring,” she said.

After a morning filled with insights followed an exciting afternoon for Cebuano kids—the Superbook Cebuano Grand Launch.

For the first time, children and their parents watched the Superbook episode, “A Giant Adventure” in Bisaya! Witnessing the kids engage in the story, now translated into their native language, was truly heartwarming.

Laughter filled the hall as they took on the challenge of Gizmo’s Talent Show, where they showcased their TikTok dance moves.

The fun experience didn’t end there; they played games, answered trivia questions, took home Superbook merchandise, and sang “The Salvation Poem” in Cebuano, too!

The journey extended to the Children’s Haven Orphanage in Cordova the following day, October 8.

Gizmo on the Go!’s Super Crew and everyone’s beloved robot friend, Gizmo, sparked hope and joy in the lives of children.

The kids, along with their teachers, danced and watched an exciting film. They also engaged in quizzes, challenged themselves, and delved into a mind-boggling, scientific question-and-answer session.
