Superbook Brings Christmas Hope to Japan’s Elderly in 2025

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

— 1 John 3:18

In Japan—where fewer than one percent of the population is Christian—many elderly men and women have never heard the stories of Jesus, never opened a Bible, and never encountered the hope found in God’s Word. As the nation faces a rapidly aging population, increasing loneliness among seniors, and families searching for comfort and meaning in later seasons of life, this generation remains one of the least reached with the Gospel.

This past Christmas season in Tokyo, CBN Asia shared God’s love in tangible and compassionate ways through Superbook videos, DVDs, and carefully prepared faith-based materials in Japanese. These resources were distributed to nine elderly care facilities during a time of year that can be especially difficult for seniors who experience isolation or limited family visits.

The response from facility staff was deeply encouraging.

“We placed the booklet ‘Something More Important Than Life’ on the bookshelf in our dining area. Residents often pick it up and read it while waiting for meals. We also watched the Superbook DVD at Christmas, and it created a warm and positive atmosphere. Thank you so much for your kindness.”— Ms. Nagasawa

“Thank you very much for the Superbook DVDs. The elderly residents also enjoyed the activities and brain exercises. These materials brought new joy and engagement to our daily programs.”— Ms. Yokota

“Thank you for sending the Superbook DVDs and booklets. These resources were prepared with great consideration for the Japanese audience. We are truly grateful.”— Mr. Osumi, Head Manager

Many of the elderly residents reached through this outreach are non-Christian and have had little or no prior exposure to the Bible. Often overlooked in evangelistic efforts, they are nonetheless open to stories that offer comfort, compassion, and meaning. These gentle introductions to biblical values through Superbook materials invite reflection and peace and can even create opportunities for meaningful conversations when their children and grandchildren visit and watch together.

CBN Asia’s mission to share the love of Christ in ways that are culturally sensitive, respectful, and life-giving continues to open doors across Japan. This outreach was made possible through the vision and prayers of Ms. Myra Shimamoto, a Christian volunteer who has faithfully served in Japan for many years with a deep heart for the elderly and their families. CBN Asia also extends sincere appreciation to business leaders like Mr. Akira Shimamoto for opening their facilities and for their ongoing dedication to caring for seniors in the community.

Ms. Shimamoto shared:

“The Japanese managers, staff, and caregivers welcomed these materials because they are stories of encouragement and compassion. Daily life in these facilities can be very challenging. My hope is that through these godly stories—available in Japanese—the elderly and those who look after them may experience comfort and God`s love during difficult moments.”

As we look to the future, you can continue to be part of what God is doing in Japan. Your prayers and support help bring hope to those who may otherwise never hear the message of Christ—one Superbook story, one family, and one community at a time.

May the Lord bless you richly as you partner with CBN Asia to share the love of Jesus in Japan.
