Brian Knowles, a resident of Altadena, California, lost everything when a devastating wildfire swept through his neighborhood. The fire destroyed his family’s home—a house his late mother had built and filled with memories.
Fires had threatened the area before, but they never reached the homes below the mountain. This time was different.
“I saw embers flying down the driveway,” Brian recalled. “I turned and looked at my son sleeping on the bed. And I said, ‘We’re out of here.’”

At first, he thought the evacuation would last only a few days. But when he returned, there was nothing left. The fire had taken not just his home, but all the tools he used for work as a water restoration specialist and high school track coach.
“My water extractor, dehumidifiers, air filters, and timing system. All of it was gone,” he said.
Despite the loss, Brian’s spirit remained strong. He credits his resilience to his mother, who was not only a parent but also his coach when he was young. Her words and example taught him to face hardship with determination.

“You better get up. Ain’t no quitting here,” he said “Of course, there are things you’ll never get back, but you still have your memories.”
Operation Blessing stepped in to support Brian during this difficult time. The organization provided him with essential tools to restart his water restoration work and ordered a new timing system so he could continue coaching.
Gordon Robertson, who joined the Operation Blessing team in Los Angeles, said, “Behind me are all the tools he’s going to need to get his plumbing business restored… so he can get back coaching track.”

He added, “If you’ve given to the Operation Blessing Disaster Relief Fund, you’re part of this. You’re part of feeding them, and for families just like Brian, you’re helping them get back on their feet with very tangible help.”
Brian expressed deep gratitude for the support. “It’s a true blessing. The overwhelming support, it’s just amazing.”
