How can anyone give when there’s barely enough to survive?
Faced with the choice of stretching three days’ worth of food or buying medicine for a sick child, would it make sense to obey and give instead?
Can this obedience unlock miracles in your life?
To Madeleine Gimeni, as crazy as it sounds, it did.
Inspired by testimonies on The 700 Club Asia, Madeleine decided to donate to God’s ministry through CBN Asia, even though she struggled to find a job and pay her bank loan.
God did not disappoint her. Shortly after this act of faith, she landed a job that allowed her to repay her debts and ultimately, reconnect with Jesus.
Fast forward to the pandemic, Madeleine found herself in one of her hardest seasons.
Burned out from her job as a social media manager, struggling with her own illness, solo parenting a sick child, and worrying about how to pay for her child’s insurance, she felt empty. With no funds left, all she had was a sense of helplessness—and a desperate hope for a miracle.
Then, in a moment of divine timing, Madeleine watched an episode of The 700 Club Asia. Inspired by a story of a man who gave his last few pesos, she felt God calling her to give.
“The Php 236 I had left in my GCash account—I donated it,” Madeleine recalls in tears. “I just prayed, ‘Lord, I surrender this to You.’”
That Php 236, like the widow’s offering in Mark 12:44, was all she had left. Despite the sacrifice, she trusted that God had a plan.
And indeed, her small act of obedience opened the door to a series of little miracles.
She found 50 pesos tucked in her pocket, despite having washed those pants countless times. Her landlady brought them food, and unexpectedly, support from friends and family totaled Php 25,000.
Through this experience, Madeleine learned that God honors obedience, especially when it’s sacrificial. In these moments of surrender, God moves, working out even the hardest situations for good.
If you’re wrestling with a choice that feels impossible, may you remember Madeleine’s story. Sometimes, the miracle lies on the other side of giving, even when it seems like too much. When we trust God in our lack, He shows us His abundance.
As the Psalmist writes in Psalm 37:25 NIV,
“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”
To those who trust and obey Him, even when it’s hard, God promises provision. This is the miracle of giving.
