Does work stress you out?
For many, the workplace can be a source of stress. While small amount of manageable stress can help motivate you and keep you focused, too much of it can lead to burnout.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to help yourself break free from stress. Here are 3 tips to overcome your work-related stress:
1. Revisit your purpose and priorities
Why do you work?
There is a greater purpose why you are working and that is found in Colossians 3:23 NIV, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human master.”
You give your best at work not because you want to please men, but because you want to serve God above all. To manage stress, list down your purpose and priorities then ask God to help you focus on what truly matters to Him.
2. Improve your work-life balance
You can love your job but still get stressed if you don’t practice a healthy work-life balance.
Do not let work steal your time with God and with your loved ones. Schedule a time for rest and relaxation without feeling guilty. Go to your quiet place. Take days off and allow yourself to breathe, recharge, and rest in the presence of God.
See how it can bring refreshment to your soul and strength as you face tomorrow. Find comfort in God’s Word in Philippians 4:6 NIV, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
3. Seek help
If you’re one breath away from burnout, here’s something to comfort you: You don’t have to go through everything alone.
God wants you to seek help from others and trust that they can really support you. Jesus showed this trait when He called His 12 disciples and gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease (Matthew 10:1 NKJV).
He could’ve done all the miracles but chose not to. Instead, He empowered His disciples to work miracles. In the same way, trust that God can help you through your workmates and loved ones! Reach out to someone and ask for help when you need it.
Above all, pray. Seek help from your Heavenly Father and trust that He will help you overcome (Isaiah 41:10).
