Dumagat Children Dare to Dream with Operation Blessing and Francis Libiran

Barangay Puray, in Rodriguez, Rizal is home of indigenous people called Dumagat-Remontado tribeAlthough living in the hilltops allows the residents to enjoy the serene nature, their remote location isolates them from proper healthcare and education.

Such lack affects not just the adults, but most especially, the children in their community. One of them is Noemi Cruz.

To a little girl like Noemi, daring to dream for her future also means helping other kids who are in dire need, just like her.

My dream is to be a teacher, because I want to teach children who don’t know how to read. [I believe] it is possible to reach my dreams; I’ll be a teacher when I study well! Noemi exclaimed, now more hopeful than ever.

Noemi is one of the 75 Dumagat children in their community who are beneficiaries of the Bless-a-Child (BAC) program of the Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines – CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm.

Through BAC, undernourished children like Noemi enjoy healthy lunches every dayfree medical checkup and medicines on a regular basis, as well as free primary education and values formation support. Their parents are also taught how to prepare nutritious meals for their children.

One of BAC’s known supporters is esteemed fashion designer Francis Libiran On his 20th year in the fashion industry, he once again partnered with Operation Blessing in inspiring hope to children’s dreams.

Last December, Francis and his business partner Arsi Baltazar joined the OB team as they braved the raging rivers and hours of travel to reach the beneficiaries in Barangay Puray.

“We really wanted to reach out to people who are really in need. I’ve been blessed with so many things, and what would I do to that blessing if I’m not going to give it to those who are in need? Part of the completion of their dreams is they have to be nourished with food, so they’ll grow up really well,” Francis shared.

As the Dumagat children sketched their ambitions in life, the world-renowned fashion icon recalled how a simple sketch on the back of his notebook when he was young led him to where he is right now. He pressed on the importance of dreaming big as a child.

“When I saw Noemi, she has that look, she has a vision that she wants to be a teacher. So, I told her to nurture her dream and to always hold on to it. One wants to be a teacher; one wants to be a pastor; one wants to be a soldier. They’re also sketching their future,” Francis shared.

With this, Francis also invites everyone to be an instrument in helping others. “I hope we will continue in helping out other communities because they really need us. We are very fortunate to have something for us. Let us give it back to those who are less fortunate and to the children.”

Rising From The Ashes – Operation Blessing Gives Hope To Fire Victims In Sta. Ana, Manila

It was in the early hours of January 1, 2020, when a destructive fire woke up the residents along Pasig Line St. in Sta. Ana, Manila. Houses and properties were consumed by the fire leaving hundreds of our kababayans homeless and hopeless this new year.

To help them rise from the ashes, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB), CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, provided relief packs to 150 families affected by this catastrophe in Sta. Ana, Manila, on January 23.

A relief bag containing food such as noodles, milk, coffee, canned goods, and rice was handed over to them.

One of the victims who waited patiently for her turn to receive was Estrella Holar, with her granddaughter, Mariel Reyes.

Estrella recalled, “Our house was near where the fire started so we had no choice but to leave immediately. We were not able to rescue anything but ourselves because it was spreading quickly. I can’t help but cry as we stand from a distance and witness the fire devouring our home.”

“That’s why I thank Operation Blessing because you are indeed a blessing. The relief goods will really help us,” she expressed.

Another grateful mother was 48-year-old Hedeliza Sanggalang.

She shared, “My family and I were still celebrating the New Year when the nightmare happened. My daughter alerted us and I rushed to call my family to go out of the house right away. We saved nothing because all I had in mind was to bring them to safety especially my mother who was bed-ridden and my special child who was sleeping then.”

“You are an answer to our prayers, Operation Blessing. Thank you for your help. The relief pack reminded us that God truly provides and He has never left our side,” she added.

OB did not also miss the opportunity to introduce the One who can bring beauty out of ashes – Jesus.

While the families were in line, our church partners prayed for them and many received Jesus. Inside the relief pack were a gospel track and Bible to help them grow in their relationship with God.

We can do more and you can be part of it. Many of our kababayans still need your help.

Will Batangas get to Rise Again after the Taal Volcano Eruption?

Life in the evacuation area is not easy.

All of a sudden, you would have to live with people, mostly whom you have not met, from different places. You have to share rooms, comfort rooms, and bathrooms. You have to wait for relief goods if some would come. Life there is like keeping your hopes up in the midst of uncertainty.

Where will I live next? How do I start all over again?

These are just some of the questions that the evacuees have been asking in their hearts.

Filipinos displaced from various areas around Taal Volcano evacuated to temporary shelters after its eruption on January 12. Some started losing hope while others choose to look forward to a better tomorrow.

Angelito de Sagun from Taal, Batangas has nowhere else to go and does not have an idea as to how his home is doing by this time. They are not allowed to go back to their houses due to the dangers that the volcanic eruption has been bringing.

Zairone Castillo, with his son Zian Prince, from Lemery, Batangas does not know where life would bring them as it seems like they would not be allowed to go back to their home anymore. But then, he is wishing that things will start going back to normal and is thankful for the help that comes to them wherever they are.

Hygiene kits in eco-bags prepared by Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB) that includes a mat, bath soaps, shampoos, detergent soaps, toothpaste, alcohol, sanitary pads, diapers for babies or toddlers, and a Bible, were distributed to evacuees in Rosario, Batangas.

People staying in evacuation areas in barangays San Isidro, Pinagsibaan, Baybayin, Timbugan, Bagong Pook, and Marilag received these temporary relief packs.

Every kit given sparked hope in the hearts of the Batangueños.

“Babangon ang Batangas? Babangon!” (Will Batangas rise again? It will!”) They exclaimed as they choose to look forward to a brighter future.

As they rise from the ashes that the volcanic eruption catastrophe brought them, you can help with repacking, sorting relief goods, offering assistance like driving and assisting with picking up donations, and bringing them to the Operation Blessing warehouse.
