3 Meaningful Things to Add to Your New Year’s Resolutions

New year, new life… new habits?

Entering a new year is significant to many because here’s when you get a chance to start over. For some, it’s a symbolic stage where you can leave the past behind and start again on a whole new level, with a clean slate!

This can also be an ideal opportunity for people to pause, reflect on experiences, and realign priorities. Some even list down and plan out the coming year—dubbing it as their New Year’s resolutions.

So, before you flip that calendar over, bookmark these 3 simple yet valuable things that you can add to your New Year’s resolutions list:

1. Know God more

When you personally know Jesus, you will realize that He calls you to consider your ways (Haggai 1:7). Someone who knows God lives differently from the ways of this world.

To emphasize this, David Mattis’ Desiring God article titled Knowing God Makes All the Difference points out that Jesus calls His people to be distinct from the world, its patterns, and what’s natural. He calls His people, guided by His gospel and Spirit, to be like Jesus.

Now, how can you love, pray, lead, and live in ways that please God?

Seek more of Him, saturate yourself in His presence, and He will ultimately reveal His ways that are wonderfully designed for you.

2. Read more

Indeed, everything that was written in the past was written to teach. (Romans 15:4)

From books to websites, you may choose to dig into some personal growth readings this year. Look for materials that could help amp up your spiritual life, creativity, leadership skills, or even relationships!

Sow some time into reading and you will eventually reap good benefits from it, like being empathetic. Getting lost in a good read can make it easier for you to relate to others, says Abigail Wise in her article 8 Science-Backed Reasons to Read a Book.

And as Proverbs 4:6-7 says, “Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Experience God’s wisdom, hope, and guidance by reading Tanglaw Devotional Book Volume 3.

3. Give more

Jesus knows what you need before you ask Him (Matthew 6:8). He also knows how to use you in making this world a better place—through giving.

If you want to make this new year a meaningful and purposeful one, you may ask God to give you a generous and giving heart this 2023. Time, kindness, prayers, and a helping hand—these are just some of the many ways you can brighten someone’s day and impact lives.

Do you have the heart to give your time and resources to those in need? The Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, welcomes new donors and volunteers! Reach out and inspire change this 2023!

No matter what you give, what’s important is you let all that you do be done in love (1 Corinthians 16:14).

Meanwhile, we want to pray for you as you welcome the new year! Call the CBN Asia Prayer Center or email your prayer requests to [email protected].
