To Helen Cava, teaching is a challenging yet noble job.
Nothing beats the sense of fulfillment knowing that her profession helps mold the minds of the future generation. If you are a teacher like her, then there is a chance that you feel the same way.
All is well inside the walls of the school until she found herself in a tight corner. While her personal life was falling apart, she wondered how she can keep teaching.
“We had to borrow money every time,” Helen recalled. She tried to settle their debts but because her husband had vices, they could not make ends meet. It became a cycle until one day, their debts piled up.
As if it was not enough to push her into depression, she found out that her drunkard husband had an affair with another woman. The noble teacher instantly became the talk of the town – shame and pain crept in her heart.
“Every time I went to school to meet my class, I was overwhelmed. The parents talked about me, they said I had a good reputation but now it’s ruined,” Helen lamented.
Without anyone to turn to, Helen spiraled into grief. As she cannot take the burden of their debts and the pain of her husband’s betrayal, she decided to end her life.
“Before I took the pills, I hugged my children who were both sleeping. I did not cry out God’s name. I just took the pills. Then my whole body felt numb,” Helen cried out.
If you are in the same place, don’t lose hope! You might be a step closer to your breakthrough!
Thankfully, God saved Helen from that harrowing fate. But her unsuccessful suicide attempt only pushed her further to the dark side.
Angry, ashamed, and hopeless, Helen suddenly remembered the CBN Asia Prayer Center. She reached out through text and was surprised that there are people out there who are willing to comfort her. A pastor from one of Prayer Center’s church partners visited Helen and introduced her to the saving love of God.
“The pastor told me, ‘Helen, I was sent here because God has a plan for you.’ Then he shared with me the verse Jeremiah 29:11,” she said. That meeting changed her life and led her to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Helen remained as a public school teacher, but her whole life transformed when she surrendered it to Jesus. He helped her overcome their debts and softened her heart so she can forgive her husband. She received a new hope and a future, a new perspective in life.
“Ever since I started going to church, I felt at peace. Thank God for Prayer Center!” Helen said, smiling.
Do you feel like your whole world is falling apart despite your sacrifices as a teacher? Are you struggling with depression right now?
Here is God’s message for you today: there is hope.
Helen is just one of the many Filipinos who were rescued from grief through prayers. She is one of the many teachers who found hope in Jesus and discovered that all things will eventually work for good to those who love Him.
Believe that God can do the same for you.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NKJV)
