You tried to change. You succeeded, you’re progressing, and you’re having a good walk in your faith. But sometimes, it still feels like your past is lingering, and thoughts come that make you doubt your progress and change.
Have you ever experienced this? The saving grace of God has already brought you far from who you were before. But there are still things that need to change, and one of them is removing the lies that the enemy keeps telling you.
Here are some lies that might still be bothering you or that you might unknowingly believe that stops you in moving forward.

1. “You are not forgiven.”
This is one of the struggles many Christians face. Sins may feel heavy, and sometimes you might think what you’ve done is beyond God’s forgiveness. You may feel like your sin is too grave to be forgiven.
But the Bible says, “If we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (1 John 1:9 NLT)
God’s forgiveness is not dependent on what kind of sin you committed or how “big” it feels. His forgiveness is based on His grace. No matter how serious the sins you have done, when you sincerely and wholeheartedly ask God for forgiveness, He will forgive you and remember it no more.

2. “You’re not going to change.”
You believe in God and try to change, but sometimes you fall back into sin or old habits again.
Remember, your mistakes do not define you. Progress does not require perfection. There may be times when you fall, but the important thing is to get back up and continue trying again with God.
God, who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion until He returns (Philippians 1:6). Disappointment and discouragement are real, but remember that God is with you in every step.

3. “God will not love someone like you.”
No matter where you have been or what you have done in the past, God has already forgiven you when you truly repent. God showed His love for you by giving His life on the Cross so you would not continue living in sin.
The Bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
This means that God loved you so much even when you were still a sinner. And because of that love, He does not want you to stay the way you were before. That is why He gave His life for your sins, so you can experience a new life in Him.
Your mistakes do not push Him away, and your sin doesn’t stop Him from loving you. You are precious in God’s eyes, and because He loves you so much, He desires to see your life change for the better. When you truly repent, it’s good to show it through your actions—praying, turning from old habits, and living in a way that pleases Him. Real change shows real fruit.

It is important to know the truth because God’s truth will set you free (John 8:32). If you are struggling with these kinds of lies about your past, your sin, or your identity, this Holy Week special from CBN Asia might help you.
