Have you ever wondered what it would be like to share a meal with Jesus on the night before His crucifixion?
The Last Supper of Jesus with His disciples is one of the most significant moments in His ministry. On the evening before His death, He had a meal with His disciples. At this meal, Jesus took the bread, blessed it, and gave it to His disciples. He took a cup of wine, gave thanks, and shared it with them. He invited and encouraged His disciples to eat and drink in remembrance of Him.
“This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19 ESV)
It was more than just a meal. It was a powerful moment filled with teaching, love, humility, and preparation for what was about to happen.
Through the Last Supper, Jesus teaches us important lessons:

True Leadership is Found in Humble Service
After the meal, Jesus surprised His disciples by washing their feet, a task commonly assigned to a lowly servant. Through this, He showed that true greatness is found in humility and service. His example reminds us that loving others means serving them, even in the simplest ways.
Cleansing is Found in Jesus Alone
When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, Peter initially refused, but Jesus responded, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to Me.” Jesus is the only one who can cleanse our hearts. No one else has the power to make us clean before God. Before we can truly serve others, we must first surrender to Him and receive His cleansing. This looks like pausing to pray and seeking His peace, knowing that it is He alone who makes us ready to serve.

God Called us to Love One Another
One of the most powerful moments during the Last Supper was when Jesus gave His disciples a new commandment: “Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” (John 13:34). This love is shown through actions, patience, and forgiveness. It teaches us that love is not just a feeling, but a choice to obey Him and reflect His love daily.
Sacrifice is Remembered in Jesus
As they ate together, Jesus took the bread and said it represented His body, and the cup represented His blood that would be poured out. He was pointing to the sacrifice He was about to make on the Cross. Each time we share Communion, we remember His love, His suffering, and the salvation He secured. The Lord’s Supper calls us never to forget the price He paid to save us.
As we reflect on the Last Supper this Holy Week, let’s ask ourselves an important question: Are we willing to follow Jesus’s example and live out His teachings in our lives?
