Overthinking About Your Past or Future? 7 Steps to Break Free

Do you find yourself overthinking and dwelling too much on the future? Beating yourself up over past mistakes? Worried about what others might be thinking of you?

It can get overwhelming, right?

You are not alone. It’s natural to want to stay prepared, find solutions, or avoid making mistakes. However, there’s an important distinction between problem-solving and overthinking.

Problem-solving is about letting thoughts come and go without letting them control you. You focus on finding solutions.

On the other hand, overthinking happens when thoughts start to dominate your mind, and your emotions begin to take over.

So, take this time to reflect. Do you find yourself focused on solutions or stuck on problems?

Here are some practical tips that can help you with overthinking:

Tip #1: Keep yourself occupied

Notice when you tend to overthink. Is it when you’re alone in a quiet room, lying in bed staring at the ceiling?

Instead of staying idle, try channeling your energy into something productive, like doing activities that keep your mind, time, and attention occupied.

By being productive, your brain stays relaxed, allowing better solutions to surface naturally.

Colossians 3:23 (NIV) says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

When we engage in meaningful tasks, especially those done with purpose and excellence, it shifts our focus from anxious thoughts to fruitful action. It reminds us that even simple, productive work can be a form of worship and a way to manage overthinking.

Tip #2: Release your thoughts by writing or sharing

Letting go is important.

The heaviness you feel and the thoughts clouding your mind will only grow heavier if kept inside. Sharing what you’re going through or writing it down helps you process your emotions and understand your situation more clearly.

It’s even better if you can talk to someone who genuinely listens and offers comfort. If you need someone to reach out to, you can call the CBN Asia Prayer Center at 8-737-0700.

James 5:16 (NIV) says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”

While this verse refers to confession, it also shows the healing power of openness and community. Talking to someone or writing down your thoughts allows emotional release and creates space for healing, comfort, and clarity.

Tip #3: Disconnect from stressors, connect to what heals

Take time to unplug from anything, or anyone, that adds unnecessary stress. Instead, plug into activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Every time you feel like something or someone needs your attention, pause and evaluate first. Not every invitation or request deserves a “yes.” Sometimes, choosing to say “no” or “thank you for thinking of me, but I’ll have to pass” protects your well-being. Setting healthy boundaries is not selfish; it is wise.

Remember, not every battle is yours to fight, and not every burden is yours to carry. Ask God for wisdom to know what truly deserves your time and attention.

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

This means being mindful of what we allow into our minds and emotions. By setting boundaries and saying no to unnecessary stress, you’re protecting your peace and making room for what is good for your well-being.

Tip #4: Build your decision-making skills

Many get stuck replaying problems in their minds until hours and days pass without progress.

Decisions must be made. Moving forward means not only thinking but also acting. Make decisions and stick with them even if they feel difficult.

Although feeling unsure about your choice or overwhelmed by too many options is part of the journey. It reminds you of your human limitations, and highlights your need to trust God, who knows your past, present, and future.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Decision-making becomes easier when we trust God’s perspective over our limited view. Instead of being paralyzed by doubt or fear, we can act in faith, believing that God will guide and straighten our path as we move forward.

Tip #5: Take deep breaths and hug a pillow

Deep breathing is a simple yet powerful tool to reduce anxiety and stress. Michigan Medicine explains that deep breaths send a calming signal to your brain, which in turn tells your body to relax. This lowers your heart rate, breathing pace, and blood pressure.

Hugging a pillow and even allowing yourself to cry, if needed, also helps. According to News-Medical, During crying, tears help clear and detoxify the blood by removing toxins and stress hormones, such as cortisol.” This release can lead to better sleep, stronger immunity, and healthier weight management.

Tip #6: Seek professional help

If you’ve tried everything and progress still feels out of reach, it may be time to seek professional guidance.

There’s no shame in asking for help. Medical professionals can offer additional strategies and help you understand the struggles you’re facing.

Proverbs 19:20 (NIV) says, “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.”

Seeking help from counselors or professionals is not a sign of failure, it’s a wise and courageous step. God can work through trained professionals to help us navigate complex emotional and mental challenges.

Tip #7: Find true rest in God

When was the last time you slept peacefully without the burden of worry?

God desires to give you that kind of rest.

Spend time in His Word and be reminded of how great, strong, and powerful He is over anything you are facing. Listen to praise and worship music. Let His peace and joy fill your heart and mind.

Come to Him. When the noise of the world overwhelms and worries creep in, turn to prayer and ask for God’s help.

Jesus said Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV), “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

You can receive God’s promised rest as you begin to know Him. Start your journey here.

5 Everyday Habits That Boost Brain Health

You take care of your heart. You’re mindful of your physical health. You prioritize your mental well-being.

But have you thought about your brain health?

Your heart and body may be doing well, but what about your brain? It might be feeling neglected.

According to the World Federation of Neurology, “Brain health is a critical piece of your overall health. It underlies your ability to communicate, make decisions, problem-solve and live a productive and useful life.

Clearly, your brain health is important. The WFN also adds that numerous conditions can affect it—such as vascular and degenerative diseases, injuries to brain tissue, inflammation, malnutrition, immune-related disorders, and mental health challenges.

Now that the importance of brain health is clear, it’s time to explore some practical ways to keep it in great shape.

Tip #1: Care for your heart

If someone’s constantly breaking your heart—could it be time to let them go?

Heart care goes hand in hand with stress management. Many people don’t realize how closely the brain and heart are connected.

As the CDC explains, “Your heart pumps blood through vessels to every part of your body, including your brain. Keeping your blood vessels healthy can help you have a strong heart and brain.”

Caring for your heart can positively impact your brain. It is best to avoid things that drain you and give more energy to activities that bring peace, joy, and purpose.

You can manage stress—and there’s a helpful article available to guide you through it.

Tip #2: Be mindful of your diet

Food is life. Ice cream, samgyup, ramen, pizza, street snacks, green mangoes, fries—it’s hard to resist.

Tempting, right?

Enjoying food is part of life, but moderation is key. Not everything that tastes good is good for you.

Nutrition plays a major role in brain health. Dr. Vaysbrot puts it simply: “Picture what you choose to put in your mouth becoming part of you, and be thoughtful about what you’re doing to your body.”

That means loading up on fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats from sources like fatty fish, eggs, avocados, and nuts.

According to SciTechDaily, here are a few brain-boosting foods:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids from salmon and tuna support cell membranes and cognitive function.
  • Blueberries are rich in antioxidants that enhance memory and brain cell communication.
  • Leafy greens like spinach and kale promote healthy blood flow to the brain.
  • Water is essential. Dehydration affects your mood, energy, and focus.

Tip #3: Commit to simple, daily exercise

You might be thinking, “Exercise again? Can’t there be another tip?”

If only there were shortcuts. But body movement remains essential.

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times, but maybe that’s how crucial exercise is for your overall health.

HelpGuide explains: “Exercise promotes all kinds of changes in the brain, including neural growth, reduced inflammation, and new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well-being.”

It also increases endorphin levels, those natural mood lifters, and helps interrupt negative thought cycles.

Moving your body supports your brain. It is best to make it a daily habit, even in small, doable amounts.

Exercise isn’t just about abs and sculpted arms. The goal is holistic health—feeling well inside and out.

Simple activities like walking for 30 minutes, doing jumping jacks, or bodyweight workouts such as crunches or planks can make a big difference. No fancy equipment needed. Just consistency.

Tip #4: Get enough sleep

Get some rest. That late-night conversation can wait—if it’s meant to be, it’ll still be there tomorrow.

You’ve read this tip before, and maybe this is your sign to finally get enough sleep at the right time.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, “Quality sleep—and getting enough of it at the right times—is as essential to survival as food and water. Without sleep, you can’t form or maintain the pathways in your brain that let you learn and create new memories, and it’s harder to concentrate and respond quickly.”

Sleep is key to how neurons communicate. It supports learning, memory, and mental clarity.

Aim for 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep each night. Think about it: sleep is so essential, it should take up about a third of your day. That’s a significant investment—because it’s just that important.

Tip #5: Stay connected

It’s very important to find time to connect with others. Human beings are wired for connection. Healthy relationships contribute to overall wellness.

Harvard Health points out, “Research increasingly shows that strong social ties are crucial to your brain health. Socializing can stimulate attention and memory, and help to strengthen neural networks. You may just be laughing and talking, but your brain is hard at work.”

Social interaction benefits your brain and uplifts your emotional well-being.

Your brain does so much for you every single day. It’s only right to care for it in return.

Small, consistent choices like eating well, moving regularly, sleeping enough, and connecting with others can make a big difference.

Include your brain in your wellness journey. A healthy mind helps you live with more clarity, peace, and purpose.

3 Ways God Reveals His Nature Through Creation

Nature has a unique way of awakening something within us. It can bring peace to the heart and quiet the mind. Often, when we feel tired or worn out, we long to be in a place where the richness of nature world surrounds us.

But more than just scenery, nature reveals something greater—the beauty of God. Through creation, we see His glory, power, majesty, and most of all, His love.

As we recently celebrated Earth Day, now is a good time to reflect on how God uses creation to reveal who He is.

1. God as the Gardener of Our Lives

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful… Remain in me, as I also remain in you… If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:1–5, NIV)

To those who love plants, this illustration may resonate deeply. In this passage, Jesus refers to Himself as the vine and God the Father as the gardener. He explains that unfruitful branches are cut off, while fruitful ones are pruned to become even more productive.

This image applies to our lives as well. Christ is the vine, and we are the branches. Not everything in life is meant to stay—some things may bring more harm than good. God sometimes removes what hinders our growth so that we can become more fruitful. This process may be painful, but it’s ultimately for our benefit.

Are there areas in your life that need to be pruned? Habits or attitudes like gossip, addiction, or dishonesty? Let God take those away, so the other parts of your life can thrive. Left unaddressed, these things can quietly harm what’s healthy and good.

At the same time, God nourishes the parts of your life that are meant to flourish. This passage also reminds us to remain in Him. As it says, “No branch can bear fruit by itself.” We were made to be connected to God.

2. God as the Keeper of His Promises

“The rainbow that I have put in the sky will be my sign to you and to every living creature on earth. It will remind you that I will keep this promise forever… Never again will I let floodwaters destroy all life.” (Genesis 9:12–17, CEV)

Long before rings symbolized love and commitment, God gave humanity the rainbow as a sign of His promise. It served as a lasting reminder of His covenant.

God made this promise after the great flood. When Noah and his family left the ark, he built an altar, and it pleased the Lord. In response, God made a covenant never to destroy all life with a flood again.

There’s something beautiful about how God chose a visible sign to help us remember. It’s where the saying comes from—there’s always a rainbow after the rain. This is God’s way of reassuring us that His promises endure.

In moments of discouragement, that rainbow can serve as a reminder of hope. Just as it appears after a storm, God’s promises remain constant through life’s highs and lows.

As Scripture reminds us, “God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves Him” (Romans 8:28, CEV).

His faithfulness is a strong foundation we can depend on.

3. God as the One Who Makes a Way

“Then Moses put out his hand over the sea. And the Lord moved the sea all night by a strong east wind. So the waters were divided. And the people of Israel went through the sea on dry land.” (Exodus 14:21–22, NLV)

You might know the story of how God parted the sea so His people could escape from danger. It was a powerful moment, one where even the sea obeyed His voice.

But what’s even more incredible is this: the same God who parted the sea is the one who wants you to know today that He loves you.

This is the God who makes a way when there seems to be no way. The God you follow hasn’t changed. He can still part the sea of obstacles in your life, calm the storm of your raging emotions, and dry the tears you’ve cried in silence.

Let Him be the Lord in your life.

Creation constantly points back to Him. He used the vine to teach us about His care, the rainbow to display His faithfulness, and the parted sea to show us His power and provision. But He didn’t stop there.

  • Formed the world in six days (Genesis 2:1, NIV)
  • Appeared through fire in a bush (Exodus 3:2, NIV)
  • Spoke through a donkey (Numbers 22:28, NIV)
  • Sent a great fish to remind a man of his calling (Jonah 1:17)
  • He calmed the storm (Mark 4:39, NIV)
  • Walked on water (Matthew 14:25, NIV)
  • Provided for the sparrow (Matthew 6:26, NIV)
  • Cursed a barren fig tree (Mark 11:14, NIV)

All of these moments reveal who He is—and they invite us to turn back to Him.

And the greatest display of His love? When His only Son took the place of sinners. Though innocent, He was treated as guilty. Though King of all, He wore a crown of thorns.

All of creation leads to one truth: Jesus is the Lord and Savior of the world.

A Father’s Tears and a New Beginning

For Joel Abellanosa, life used to revolve around providing for his family. At just 26 years old, he worked tirelessly to support his wife and young son. But a tragic fall from a 30-foot Wi-Fi tower while on the job in Brgy. Rizal, Bansalan, Davao del Sur changed everything in an instant.

The accident left Joel unable to walk. In the months that followed, he had to rely on others—his wife, and even his four-year-old son—for the simplest of needs. Tasks he once did without a second thought became impossible.

“I felt like such a burden,” he said, his voice breaking. “I should be the one taking care of him.”

But everything shifted when Joel became one of the recipients of a wheelchair through Operation Blessing’s distribution initiative in Davao. As he sat in the chair for the first time, something changed—his smile returned, and with it, a sense of hope and possibility.

“I can move by myself now,” he said, tears in his eyes. “It feels like I’ve gotten a part of myself back.”

For many of us, a wheelchair is just a tool. But for someone like Joel, it’s a symbol of independence, contribution, and the beginning of a new chapter. It’s a chance to lend a hand again, to dream again—perhaps even to work at a nearby welding shop or help with household chores he once loved.

This life-giving mission was made possible through the generous support of Cebu Pacific Cargo, who provided free air shipment for the wheelchairs.

Adding to the heartwarming atmosphere, Reverb Worship PH artist Vee Jay Dela Calzada serenaded the beneficiaries, filling the air with music, encouragement, and faith.

With every wheelchair given, we’re not just providing mobility. We’re restoring a sense of worth, independence, and hope that can ripple through entire families.

Thanks to your support, people like Joel are reclaiming their lives, one wheelchair at a time!

From Prison to Purpose: 4 Lessons You’ll Learn from the Film “Preso”

CBN Asia’s Tanikala is known for producing powerful, real-life films that inspire and awaken faith—and Preso is no exception.

This special Holy Week tells the true story of Wendell, a man who found himself imprisoned not only by concrete walls but also by pain, regret, and the weight of his past.

Tanikala: Preso dives deep into Wendell’s life journey, from a traumatized young man who lost his way in drugs and crime to a redeemed follower of Christ who found purpose even inside prison.

But Preso is more than just a film; it’s a message for anyone who feels stuck, forgotten, or broken.

Wendell’s journey reveals four powerful truths that offer healing to the deepest wounds: Freedom, The Power of God’s Word, Hope, and Forgiveness.

1. True Freedom Comes From God

Behind bars, Wendell met a pastor who shared words that pierced through walls and sorrow:

“Even though we’re inside this prison cell, we have freedom. Even though I’m in jail, I am free,” the pastor said.

The world often tells us that freedom means doing whatever we want. But the Bible tells a different story. Real freedom is found in Christ. Freedom from sin, shame, bitterness, and fear.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36, ESV)

2. The Word of God Has Power

One night, overwhelmed and desperate, Wendell did something simple yet life-changing—he opened the Bible.

He started reading. He didn’t understand everything, but something stirred in his heart. He became curious. He began asking the prison pastor questions. And little by little, God’s Word softened the hardened places in his soul.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)

God’s Word did what no lecture, punishment, or motivational talk could do, it transformed Wendell from the inside out. Once a man filled with hate and pain, he became a messenger of peace. Once an enemy of God, he became a child of God.

3. There Is Always Hope

Wendell was supposed to spend the rest of his life in prison. But miraculously, he was set free.

That alone is powerful. But the greater miracle is this: Wendell found freedom and hope even before the prison gates opened. He learned that no matter how far you’ve fallen, God can still raise you up.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV)

Even when it seemed like everyone had given up on him—his partner, his kids, even himself—God never left. And hope became real again.

4. Forgiveness Heals the Deepest Wounds

Wendell’s past was full of pain. His father, drunk one night, accidentally shot and killed Wendell’s brother. That trauma hardened Wendell’s heart. He entered the world of drugs, became a pusher, and eventually landed in jail. At one point, he was so angry he even wanted revenge.

But God used someone close to him, his mother, to stop him. She stepped in when Wendell was planning retaliation and reminded him not to let hate take over. Her words helped soften his desire for vengeance.

At the last part of the film, in a moment of unexpected compassion, his father, once distant and ashamed, reached out to help.

“I didn’t expect my dad to help me. He hated drugs, and as a policeman, my situation brought shame to him. But he said, ‘I’ll help you. We’ll fight this case together.’”

And then, the words Wendell never imagined he would hear:

“I’m deeply struggling… but I love you so much, my son.”

Later, one night when Wendell was hunted by his past, he prayed to God:

“I give up, I can’t do this anymore. Help me, Lord. I need You.”

That cry became a turning point. Forgiveness broke through. He forgave those who had hurt him. He forgave his father. He forgave himself.

Wendell remembered what the prison pastor said. “Jesus paid for the sins we were supposed to pay for.”

A Beautiful Redemption

Wendell was released from prison. But more than that, he was restored—to God, to his family, and to his purpose.

The final scene in Preso shows Wendell embracing his father in tears, joined by Wendell’s three children. A family once shattered, now reunited. Just like the story of the prodigal son, Wendell came home.

“He set me free from everything. From my weaknesses, from all my fears. The Lord never abandoned me inside that prison. I’ve realized that life is truly joyful when the Lord is with you,” Wendell said.

What about you?

You may not be in a physical prison, but maybe you’re locked up in bitterness, regret, or sorrow. Maybe you’ve said, “There’s no more hope for me.”

But there is.

Like Wendell, you can cry out today:

“Jesus, I need You.”

He hears you. He loves you. And He is more than able to rescue and redeem you.

Freedom is real. God’s Word is alive. Hope is always present. Forgiveness is waiting.

Come home now.

Gerard Pizarras Transforms Into “Preso” in CBN Asia’s Holy Week Special, Tanikala

Seasoned actor Gerard Pizarras takes on the challenging role of a drug-addict-turned-inmate in CBN Asia’s highly anticipated Holy Week Special, Tanikala presents “Preso”—airing this Good Friday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. on GMA.

Preso follows the true-to-life story of Wendell Tolibas, a man whose life spirals into chaos after witnessing a traumatic incident. Consumed by pain and anger, he turns to rebellion, drug addiction, and crime while living in Davao. Arrested and publicly shamed in 2017, he found himself trapped behind bars and at rock bottom.

“When I first read the script, I said, ‘This person’s story is inspiring. Lord, thank You for this story because it encouraged me,’” Gerard recalled.

Having portrayed similar roles of incarcerated men in the past, Gerard found Preso to be unique. Unlike other stories that dwell solely on the suffering inside prison walls, this telecine inspires viewers that true redemption is possible and that there is life after prison.

Alongside his talented co-stars—his wife, veteran actress Jan Marini, and actor-influencer Jericho Arceo—Gerard brings to life a character whose struggles resonate not only with actual prisoners but with anyone who feels imprisoned by their addiction, past hurts, and difficult circumstances.

“Many people can relate, even if they’re not in prison. A lot of us feel trapped by mistakes, by tragedies. But this story gives hope.”

He adds, “This film is perfect for Holy Week. It’s a time for reflection—an opportunity to look back, acknowledge past mistakes, and make things right with God.”

Preso is directed by Timmy Yee, who also co-wrote the film with Gilbeys Sardea. The director hopes that this year’s offering will help anyone who watches it be ‘freed’ from anything that makes them feel trapped.

“During this Holy Week, it’s time to reflect on our lives and the areas that need freedom. Hopefully, this story will serve as a ‘trigger’ for everyone who watches it, that it would set us free from the things that have imprisoned us,” he shared.

This Holy Week, break free and embrace new beginnings. Watch Tanikala presents Preso this Good Friday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. on GMA.

5 Life-Changing Reasons to Start Reading the Bible Today

You’ve probably heard it countless times— “You should read the Bible.”

But why exactly? What can one gain from reading it?

If you’re wondering why reading the Bible is essential, here are five reasons that may inspire you to begin today:

Reason #1: The stories in the Bible are relatable.

When you read the Bible, you’ll find that many of its characters faced situations that still happen today.

Rejection, judgment, poverty, long-term struggles, addictions, betrayal—you can find these stories in the Bible.

These stories can offer hope and strength for whatever you’re going through. You might find yourself thinking, “If it happened to them, it could happen to me, too. If they overcame it, so can I.”

There’s something powerful about seeing how others handled their challenges. So, you begin to understand how to respond better to the situations in your own life.

Reason #2: It strengthens you.

People work out to build physical strength, eat vegetables to stay healthy, and read books and watch tutorials to improve their skills.

But what about emotional, mental, and spiritual strength? How does one build faith, especially in tough seasons?

By reading the Bible and meditating on the promises of God.

Psalm 119:28 (NIV) says, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to Your word.”

The Bible strengthens not just because of the words it contains, but because it’s alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), and God-breathed(2 Timothy 3:16). You can’t find these in any other book.

Reason #3: It sets you free.

You’ve likely heard the phrase, “The truth will set you free.” That actually comes from the Bible, and you can read it in John 8:32.

But here’s a question: What is truth?

If the truth sets people free, then what exactly is the truth? And what does it set them free from?

Jesus answered it Himself: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

Jesus is the Truth. To get to know Him, you need to read the Bible.

Through it, freedom becomes real. You can be free from sin, eternal death, pressure, confusion, bitterness, anxiety, the need to control, pride, and unforgiveness. It also gives you freedom from lies.

Lies like “No one loves you.”

“You’re all alone.”

“Your efforts mean nothing.”

“You don’t have a future worth hoping for.”

But here’s what’s true:

You are loved. (Romans 8:35–39)

You are never alone. (Joshua 1:9)

You will be blessed. (Psalm 128:2)

You have a bright future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Reason #4: The Bible brings clarity and direction.

Ever feel uncertain or stuck when making a decision? Not sure which path to take? Or maybe you simply don’t know where to begin?

Psalm 119:105 (NIV) says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Author Paul Sohn, in Quarter-Life Calling, described the overwhelming number of choices people face daily: What to wear, what to eat, who to be with, what career to pursue… the list goes on. It can feel paralyzing.

Too many choices often lead to indecision and second-guessing.

If that sounds familiar, maybe this is the right moment to tune out the noise and start listening to God, through reading the Bible.

Reason #5: It cleanses the soul.

Just as unhealthy food harms the body, toxic content harms the mind and heart.

Gossip, negativity, toxic environments, violent media, and pornography—these are all toxins for your soul. Just like junk food affects the body, these things damage emotional and spiritual health.

If you want it to be cleansed, read the Bible.

Jesus said in John 15:3 (NKJV), “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”

God’s Word holds the power to purify and restore us.

But before pressure starts to creep in, remember this: You can always take it one step at a time. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but what matters most is that you begin. Reading the Bible brings such amazing impact to your life. It’s worth choosing every day, even just one chapter at a time, just as God chooses you every single day.

He loves you.

You’ll come to know that love even more, when you get to know God and His Word.

Don’t know where to begin? You can start here.

5 Activities to Enjoy this Holy Week

Do you already have a list of things to do this Holy Week?

Going out?

Sleeping in?

Catching up on Netflix?

Or maybe all of the above?

Whatever the plan, Holy Week is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and be present.

Most Filipinos associate Semana Santa with traditions like Ash Wednesday, penance, palm branches, and abstaining from meat. These are common practices in the Philippines.

But is following them a requirement?

Not at all.

Holy Week is meant to be a time of remembrance and celebration.

It marks the moment when Jesus saved the world by dying on the cross and rising again after three days. That victory is something worth rejoicing in!

To celebrate Holy Week, here are five activities to enjoy your time alone or with loved ones.

Holy Week activity #1: Prepare a feast for the family

The Last Supper is one of the most well-known stories from the Bible. It was the final meal Jesus shared with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Of course, this isn’t about having a “last meal” with family! Instead, why not prepare a special feast to enjoy together?

Busy schedules often make it difficult to sit down for a meal with loved ones. Holy Week is a great opportunity to slow down and create meaningful moments around the table.

Holy Week activity #2: Hunt Easter Eggs

Have you ever tried an Easter egg hunt? It’s a fun tradition, especially on Easter Sunday. The game involves hiding real or plastic eggs (often filled with small surprises) and letting participants search for them. The best part? The prizes are up to the organizer—whether it’s chocolate, cash, or something as extravagant as a house and lot.

Just kidding!

But why eggs?

According to History.com, “From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs symbolize Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection.”

Activity #3: Volunteer and help others

Many groups take this time to organize outreach programs, such as feeding initiatives, fundraisers, free medical checkups, community cleanups, and relief efforts.

There are plenty of ways to give back. This is a meaningful time to invest in something where the reward comes from the Lord.

Here are some verses about generosity and giving:

  • “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7, NLT)
  • “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25, NKJV)
  • “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38, CEV)

Activity #4: Clear your mind by cleaning your space

Ever been told to “Marie Kondo” your stuff? The phrase refers to decluttering and simplifying a space, inspired by Marie Kondo, a well-known organizing expert.

She believes that a tidy, well-organized space leads to a more peaceful environment. If something no longer sparks joy or serves a purpose, it’s best to let it go.

Holy Week is a great time to clear the mind, and one way to do that is by tidying up.

With the long weekend ahead, why not take advantage of it?

Holding onto candy wrappers from an ex or dried flowers from a past relationship? Maybe it’s time to throw them out—especially if they no longer bring joy.

Superbook Bisaya: Bringing Children and Families in Cebu Closer to God

Kids were thrilled to watch the show in their language, troubled teens found comfort in God’s love, and parents—some brought to tears and felt immense joy as they witnessed their children accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

This is how the recent Superbook Bisaya Caravan: Sabay-Sabay Lilipad touched the lives of children and adults in Cebu.

The caravan united donors, volunteers, and families with a shared passion for spreading God’s Word to the next generation. It made a meaningful impact on communities across Cebu. The event reached Guadalupe, Zapatera, Carreta, and a home center for children in conflict with the law.

One of the event’s highlights was the screening of Superbook Bisaya. For many children, it was their first time hearing Bible stories in their own language, making the lessons more relatable and impactful.

Parents and children alike expressed their appreciation for the events, recognizing how it reignited their faith and rekindled their love for God.

Charlene Ambray, a mother of three, shared how Superbook played a crucial role in her children’s spiritual growth. As a longtime fan of Bible-oriented shows, she recalled watching The Flying House before she got married.

Without God, nothing would be fulfilled,” she said, her eyes welling with tears. Additionally, she was especially moved when her son sang along to “The Salvation Poem” and prayed to accept Jesus into his heart.

Jay (not his real name), one of the teenagers from the home center, reflected on how Superbook resonated with him. Once involved in a gang, he had strayed far from his faith. However, watching the Superbook episode “In the Beginning” deeply touched him.

“God is important to me because He’s the One who guides me. Even in my struggles, He never abandoned me,” Jay shared.

Moreover, he found solace in knowing that despite his past, God’s love for him remained steadfast. By the end of the event, he prayed the salvation prayer and renewed his commitment to follow Jesus.

Ela (not her real name), another teenager in conflict with the law, also found hope through Superbook. She had watched Superbook as a child but was amazed to discover its version in her language. For her, the event was a reminder of how important it is to stay close to God.

“God is the prize that cannot be bought, and He’s the owner of my life,” she said.

Additionally, she expressed that “without Him, life is miserable.”

The Superbook Bisaya Caravan was more than just an event—it was a God-sent appointment for many children and families in Cebu. Moreover, it demonstrated how powerful it is to hear God’s Word in one’s own language and how faith-based programs can shape young hearts.

In a world filled with distractions and uncertainties, Superbook’s initiatives are important in keeping the next generation anchored in God’s truth. As one child’s prayer beautifully summed up, “Lord, I pray that every day, my family wakes up whole and together.”

Indeed, Superbook is not just a TV program—it is God’s instrument to transform lives, one heart at a time.

5 Powerful Steps to Break Free from Addiction

Addiction. It started with ‘I only do it occasionally,’ or ‘Just one try.’

But over time, it took control of your life, until you craved it daily. Until you couldn’t stop anymore. Until it evolved into something dark and disturbing.

That is its nature.

Addiction isn’t just about substance abuse or drugs. Anything can become an addiction— whether it’s too much use of the internet, watching explicit shows, binge-watching TV, or even overeating.

If you’re struggling with any of these, know that God is with you and desires to help you find freedom. Here are four tips that can help you break free from the chains of addiction:

1. Understand the root cause of your addiction

Every behavior has a reason behind it. That’s why it’s important to identify the root cause of your addiction.

Some people turn to alcohol to temporarily ease their pain or problems, but over time, they become dependent on it. When difficulties arise, they turn to it again.

Take time to pray and ask God to help you search your heart. David prayed for God to search his heart and know his anxious thoughts (Psalm 139:23). Ask God to reveal the deep longings and desires within your heart that may be causing you to turn to things you shouldn’t.

2. Trust in God’s sovereignty

You may know that God is powerful and can do anything, but you must truly believe it and rely on His power.

God is sovereign over every struggle you face, including addiction. Though addiction may seem difficult to overcome, it is nothing for God. As 1 John 4:4 says, “You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”

Trust that no weapon formed against you will prosper. God has authority over cravings and temptations, so believe He is more powerful than the grip of addiction in your life.

3. Show grace to yourself

Addiction often brings feelings of guilt. When you fall into temptation again, guilt can overwhelm you.

But remember, God is gracious. Even in your struggle, He extends grace to you, so you should extend grace to yourself.

The journey to recovery isn’t easy—it takes small steps, and setbacks are part of the process. When you stumble, be kind to yourself. When you fall, get up again (Proverbs 24:16). As long as you’re doing your best to overcome and lean on God, believe that He can help you.

4. Recognize and stay away from your triggers

It’s important to know what to avoid and where not to go. Jesus says, “Be watchful and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Matthew 26:41). He knows how weak we can be and how quickly we give in to our desires.

If you know that something might trigger you to fall back into addiction, stay away from it. Like Joseph, when faced with temptation, he chose to run right away.

Remember, temptation may seem appealing, but it won’t give you what you truly need. Instead, remind yourself of what really matters, and keep praying for strength and wisdom to make good choices.

5. Seek help and find the right community

Having the right people around you can greatly support your journey to freedom. You may need an accountability partner who can pray for you, offer wisdom, and remind you of your goals. It can be your family, friends, or spiritual mentor.

Ask for help from the people close to you — those you trust and who want to see you change for the better.

In some cases, professional help may be necessary to guide you through the complexities of addiction. Surround yourself with the right people and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed.

Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength and a desire to overcome. As Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two are better than one.”
