When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Everyone is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but not all are affected in the same way.

Low-income families and communities in remote areas of our country are especially hit hard by the economic effects of the pandemic. Hunger and starvation are the bigger concerns for them, even more than the coronavirus.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Day by day, food insecurity intensifies. Poor households plunge deeper into poverty. The most vulnerable among us become even more vulnerable and in need of emergency food assistance.

To give you a clearer picture, a survey of the Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research Institute revealed that 62% of households experienced having little to no food amid the pandemic.

This alarming data has confirmed the magnitude of the hunger emergency gripping our kababayans. And while you are reading this article, the numbers continue to rise.

Do you know that with your help, we can support our most vulnerable kababayans and ease their suffering?

When hunger knocks, we respond with much-needed relief and prayers!

The residents of Santa Maria, Laguna witnessed our response to their great need when CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, visited their community last weekend.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Relief operations could not reach Santa Maria because of the community’s remote location. Residents needed to hike or ride horses for hours to reach the town proper. Children had to cross nine rivers every day just to go to school!

With the help of faithful partners like you and the DLL/SAGAD Off-Roaders group, the Operation Blessing team was able to brave the rough trails and heavy rains to get to Santa Maria!

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Hundreds of families received food items, hygiene kits, and cleaning materials. More than the material relief, the residents also had the opportunity to hear the comforting, saving love of Jesus through the team.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

“Everyone is struggling each day to survive. That’s why it is a huge blessing for them to receive this kind of help. They are very happy to be one of the beneficiaries of Operation Blessing,” shared Teacher Noel, one of the teachers who helped organize the relief operation.

Derly and her husband experienced one of the worst tragedies any parent could ever go through – the loss of their unborn child due to ectopic pregnancy. Here's how she found hope and healing from God.

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

Derly Panganiban and her husband experienced one of the worst tragedies any parent could ever go through – the loss of their unborn child due to ectopic pregnancy.

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

It happened so fast that it left the couple reeling from their loss.

Derly could not bear losing their second baby and the tragedy left her traumatized. She quietly grieved for her baby.

The pain consumed her and she could not see the light at the end of this season filled with regrets and fear.

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

“It was so painful. I loved my child and I thought I took care of us very well.” Derly lamented, “But now, my baby is gone.”

She blamed herself for the tragedy and wondered if their marriage could even survive. “What would my husband think?” She worried, “What if his love for me changed?”

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

Even in these dark times, Derly still believed that God saw her brokenness and somehow, she knew that He could heal her shattered heart. Her relationship with God became her strength during this very difficult time.

She didn’t know when or how but she knew that in the midst of her tears, she would find hope and peace.

Thankfully, Derly came across The 700 Club Asia the exact moment the host prayed for a woman who just underwent a medical operation and doubted if she could still bear a child.

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

Encouraged by the prayer, Derly believed that if it was God’s will for her to get pregnant again, it would happen.

“I had new hope,” she shared. “I entrusted everything to God.”

A few months later, Derly found out she was pregnant again! She successfully gave birth to a healthy baby girl and named her Shekinah, because she is a symbol of God’s presence in their lives.

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

“I want to thank The 700 Club Asia for allowing God to use your program in giving me hope,” Derly said. “God healed my heart through your show. Our baby gives us immense joy! She is a huge blessing from God.”

Do You Need Hope and Healing Today?

Like Derly, do you need hope and healing right now?

When circumstances are challenging, you can take comfort that God will hear you as you pray. Find hope that He will rescue you, as you trust Him to restore your heart and your health.

“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.” (Psalm 107:19-20 NLT)

5 Tips to Maintain a Work-Life Balance for Dads this Pandemic – Beyond Small Talk

Work-from-home.

This is probably one of the most used terms these days since the start of the pandemic. This may sound like an ideal setup for many people, but most fathers have found working from home very challenging.

From your experience, do you agree that working from home sometimes blurs the line between work-related tasks and your personal time at home?

Don’t worry, amazing Dads. Beyond Small Talk is here for you!

Working dad Ardy Roberto shares these 5 tips on how you can achieve a work-life balance in this new normal:

Tip #1: Ask God for wisdom

Working and raising a family at the same time is hard. Don’t worry, you can do it with God’s help!

Always seek God’s wisdom not just for your work-related decisions but, more importantly, also for your relationships with your loved ones.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV)

Tip #2: Be intentional in spending time with your loved ones

Quantity time is quality time.

Set specific times for spending with your wife and kids.

A walk in the park every morning, a bike ride after your kids’ online classes, eating dinner together are a couple of examples of activities you can do to bond with your family every day.

It does not have to be grand. Your presence is more than enough to create a quality bond between you and your family, especially during this pandemic.

Tip #3: Communicate with your family

As they say, “Communication is key.”

Always be open with your loved ones about your work situation. Give your family a heads up on your schedule at work.

There will inevitably be times when you will be extra busy at work or on your business, and that’s only natural. With proper communication with your family, you can achieve understanding with them.

Tip #4: Stay true to your word and keep your promises

As the busy season at work comes to an end, be faithful in your commitments to your children and your spouse.

If you promised that you will spend the dinner time with your family, do your best to stick to it. If you said that you will help the kids with their homework that night, help them.  Let them know that they can count on your word.

Remember, small fissures of broken promises could lead to cracks of broken trust.

Tip #5: Be a good example of hard work and excellence

Working from home means your children can see your efforts to provide for the family. It is an opportunity to show them the true meaning of hard work and excellence.

Be a man who is a role model at work and at home.

Don’t worry if you fail at being the best dad sometimes. Truth is, there is no perfect father here on earth.

The great news is that there is a perfect God who leads you in being the head of your family. So, seek God’s help in keeping your work and family life balanced in this new normal.

Do you find these tips helpful in achieving your ideal work-life balance?

Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life.

The 7-year-old Bernardo Ongcoy can attest to that.

Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life. The 7-year-old Bernardo Ongcoy can attest to that. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the little boy and his father would pick talbos ng kamote (sweet potato tops) from their backyard so they would have something to eat for the day. Life was already hard for Bernardo’s family. His father Romanito makes charcoal for a living, and no matter how much charcoal he makes, his income is not enough to cover their basic needs, let alone buy nutritious meals for his kids. “Sometimes we don’t even eat. Rainy days are the worst, because we wouldn't know where to get food. My wife and I are doing our best to provide for our son, but life is really hard for us,” Romanito said. Bernardo’s family belongs to the Dumagat tribe residing on the mountains of Puray in Rodriguez, Rizal. Their community’s location is far from better-paying job opportunities and other essential services. Because they could not afford healthier or even enough food, Bernardo and his brother Miguel became undernourished. “If my papa stops making charcoal, we would have nothing to eat. I get sickly whenever I am hungry,” Bernardo narrated. His mother Vilma hopes that one day, God will hear all her prayers and bless her beloved children. “I am sad about our condition. I would just pray, ‘God, please provide food for my children so that they won’t experience hunger anymore,’” Vilma lamented. They were already struggling to survive each passing day, and as soon as the pandemic razed the country, it became even harder to know where their next meal is coming from. Thanks to you, Bernardo and his brother can enjoy warm, nutritious meals even during the pandemic! Through your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Bernardo and his fellow Dumagat kids receive support through the ministry’s Bless-a-Child program. Through Bless-a-Child, undernourished children like Bernardo enjoy healthy lunches every day, free medical checkup and medicines on a regular basis, as well as free primary education and values formation support. Their parents are also taught how to prepare nutritious yet budget-friendly meals for their children. “We are so grateful for Operation Blessing’s feeding program! My children are always full, their weight improved, and they are now more active,” his mother Vilma shared. Bernardo is now feeling happy, and full. Happy to know that there are people out there who care for them, and full because of the nutritious meals he enjoys every day! “We used to experience hunger, now we don't. Thank you so much for your help, Operation Blessing!” he said with a smile. Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life. Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Can you still give generously even in your financial need?

This seems impossible, but Nelia Ansaldo’s story is proof that you can with God’s provision.

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Nelia, a sales agent, and her husband, a mechanic, have done their best to provide for their family. However, even with all their hard work, they still struggled financially.

“It is so tiring to run after money. It is hard to see your family struggle in that situation,” Nelia said. There were even times when they had to borrow money from their neighbors just so their children can have their daily school allowance.

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Are you also in the same situation as Nelia?

Take heart! God is creating a way for you just as He had done for Nelia.

During those difficult times, Nelia watched television programs just to take a break from the stress brought by their financial problems. That’s when she stumbled upon an episode of The 700 Club Asia that changed the course of her life.

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

She was touched by the story of generosity shared by someone who was able to donate despite their financial constraints.

“I was inspired when I learned that the donations given to CBN Asia are helping communities in need, through Operation Blessing’s wells projects. You can also help people who are affected by catastrophes,” she shared.

Nelia realized that she could be a vessel of God’s blessings to others. So, she began to trust that God will provide in the middle of their financial problems, and with a cheerful heart, she donated to the ministry.

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Few days after Nelia experienced the joy of giving, God’s provision followed.

Her earnings doubled and she was able to provide for all the needs of her family, including the educational expenses of her children.

“I thank the Lord for His faithfulness!” Nelia happily said. “I witnessed God’s continuous goodness to my family and our lives.”

Do You Trust God amid Scarcity?

Are you also waiting for God’s breakthrough?

Have faith. Help is on the way.

Most of the time, God wants to teach you something first, so that when the breakthrough comes, your heart will be ready, just like what happened Nelia.

And just like Nelia, no financial constraints can hinder you in continuing the mission of paying forward the blessings of God through generous giving.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38 NIV)

Bless and be blessed.

5 Things Parents Can Do to Support their Child’s Gifts and Talents

What is your child good at?

How do you help them nurture their gifts and talents?

Parents, more than just having your own hopes and dreams for your child, it is important to encourage them to follow their own dreams and help nurture their talents.

If you are wondering how you could support your child’s pursuit of their dreams, Papuri! artist and Beyond Small Talk guest Rommel Guevara shares 5 things that can help you bring out your child’s best:

1. Be motivated by love

Are you pushing your child to excel in areas that they are not genuinely interested in?

It is understandable why many parents would want to have a say in their child’s life. They want their children to succeed. However, this practice can do more harm than good.

Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz of Child Mind Institute says that pushing kids to do things they don’t like can lead to anxiety disorder or learning disability.

Perhaps, it is time to examine your own motivations for pushing your child in a certain direction. When you want to support your child’s best interest, it is always best to be motivated by love.

2. Let them know that you support their dreams

Does your child know that you’ve got their back?

Discover your child’s gift and interests, and intentionally show your support!

“When our daughter was born, we prayed to support her dreams. We do not want to pressure her into doing ministry work, just because her parents are in the ministry. We let her discover her passions as she grows up,” Rommel said.

3. Don’t withhold discipline

It is good to give your child the freedom to choose their own path. Likewise, parents are called to guide their children (Proverbs 22:6). Fantastic parents are those who learn how to strike a balance between freedom and discipline.

Rommel shared, “We should support our children, but that doesn’t mean tolerating them when they are doing the wrong things. Love and support come with discipline.”

Remember, you can show your love and support by setting boundaries.

4. Support their talents and interests

What makes your child unique?

Sometimes, you need to step out of your comfort zone to help your child explore their gifts and talents.

Encouraging them through words is great! But there are also times when you need to show your support by providing them the tools, materials, and supplies that will further nurture their talents.

Simply put, your wallet will be involved – which leads us to point number 5.

5. Provide financial support

To Rommel, moral support is wonderful, but it is better if parents can also support their children’s interests financially.

So, if the budget allows, do not hesitate to bless your child with the equipment and materials they need. After all, you are investing in the life of your loved one!

But what if the budget is limited?

Parents, it is best to rely on your limitless God.

“Thankfully, God only entrusted our children to us. Our children’s real Father is in heaven,” Rommel said. “So, when it comes to the financial needs of our daughter, we ask God for provision. He will supply the needs of our children.”

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 ESV)

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Are you one of the many people who are forced to work from home because of the pandemic?

If you are, then this article is for you!

Working from home has numerous benefits. No more commutes and rush hour traffic. No more worrying about your outfit of the day (OOTD). You don’t even have to wear shoes!

On the other hand, while working from home means you can work on your bed, boundaries between work life and non-work life are now blurred.

You can no longer leave work at the office when you go home. This could be a challenge. You could either feel burnt out or not get anything done. Worse, you could feel burnout without getting anything done!

For International Work from Home Day, here are 5 tips that can help you overcome the challenges of working from home:

Wondering How to Survive the Work from Home Setup? Check Out these 5 Tips!

Tip #1: Have a designated and consistent place for your work

First things first, give yourself a dedicated workspace. It doesn’t have to be a new room; it could be a small corner. Just somewhere quiet, well-lit, and free from clutter and distractions.

Although not everyone has the luxury to set up a home office, it is important to choose a spot in your home where you can do your work and leave it there when the workday is done.

Tip #2: Set a reasonable schedule

Harvard Business Review’s article, 5 Ways to Work from Home More Effectively, gave sound advice: Set a schedule to provide structure to your day and to help you stay motivated.

In other words: Set up a doable schedule and try your best to stick to it.

Consider your schedule like you’re working in an office. What is acceptable at work, what’s not? What are your deliverables for the day? List them down. And remember to schedule your breaks!

Tip #3: Set boundaries

Here’s a scenario: You are in a zoom meeting, swamped with work when an unexpected visitor came knocking at your door.

What do you do?

One of the biggest challenges of working from home is that work-life boundaries can get blurred. Your friends and loved ones might think that you are free to do personal errands anytime because, after all, you are just at home.

That is why it is important to set boundaries and communicate them to everyone in the house. Explain that you are working and that you need time to focus on your work. Let your household members know that you are off-limits during your scheduled work hours.

Tip #4: Celebrate your wins

If you have ticked an item off your to-do list, go ahead and celebrate!

Life during the pandemic can be quite overwhelming. Acknowledging what you have accomplished – whether they are big or small – is a great way to encourage yourself.

Verywell Mind says that appreciating even your small wins can also boost your self-confidence and motivate you to achieve more.

So, what can you celebrate today?

Tip #5: Engage in self-care

One year into the pandemic and work from home setup, how are you holding up?

If you are feeling down, know that you are not alone.

According to the report Workforce Attitudes toward Mental Health, 96% of respondents said that the pandemic has affected their stress levels. If you can relate to that, perhaps it’s time to slow down.

It is best to carve out time to care for your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Get enough sleep, eat healthily, and find time to exercise — even during work! For instance, Verywell Fit suggests that you stretch your arms and legs every 45-55 minutes and rest your eyes.

Also, make time for relaxing activities, for your loved ones, and for prayer.

Give thanks to God for His sustaining grace and allow yourself to just rest in His presence. Pray for strength and wisdom.

Pray and believe that God will help you to not just survive – but to thrive while working from home.

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

Father’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many people, for many different reasons.

Most people grew up with a supportive, loving dad – which makes them eager to celebrate Father’s Day. However, not everyone is blessed with the same situation.

For some, the day serves as a painful reminder of years of neglect, abuse, and abandonment.

Here is the truth: All dads fail at one time or another. They are human, just like you. They make mistakes too.

But, find comfort that there is one Father who will not fail you – your Heavenly Father. The gospel of John says God is your father, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12 NIV)

When you accept God as your true and perfect father, it will change everything. He can help you see past your hurts and your tainted view of your earthly father. He can give you the heart to accept that, just like all of us, fathers are not perfect.

5 Ways to Rebuild a Broken Relationship with Your Dad this Father’s Day

The good news? It is never too late to rebuild your relationship with your dad!

This Father’s Day, here are 5 ways that can help you develop a better connection and restore your relationship with your father:

1. Ask God for a humble heart

If your relationship with your father has been broken or you just grew distant from each other over the years, it might be hard for you to reconnect even when you wanted to.

So, seek God’s help. Ask God to humble your heart and clothe you with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12).

When you humble your heart and choose to restore the relationship, then you have taken the first steps toward your healing and reconciliation process.

2. Remove the root of bitterness

Bitterness hardens the heart. It is contagious and it affects not just you, but everyone that surrounds you. To heal, let go of bitterness and embrace grace.

The Bible gives both a warning and an encouragement about the root of bitterness.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV)

3. Forgive even if forgiveness was not asked for

Forgiveness is a crucial step to healing a broken relationship. Will it be easy? Not likely.

But, through Christ, you can be granted the grace to forgive. God loves you and has forgiven you so that you can extend the same love and forgiveness to your father.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15 NIV)

4. Choose love

“Hurt people hurt people.”

Have you heard this phrase before? It is quite applicable to this situation. If you are struggling to forgive your father, chances are, he is struggling too.

Sometimes, it is hard to love. But love is the answer. Ask God to bless your heart with a love like His. Choose to love your father, just as your Heavenly Father loves you (John 13:34).

5. Be thankful

The negative experiences that happened in the past do not diminish God’s purpose for your father.

Give thanks to God for giving you life through your father. Give thanks to your earthly father. Give thanks because it is never too late to restore your relationship. Pray and believe that God can turn everything into good.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)

6 Simple Health and Wellness Tips for Fathers – Beyond Small Talk

Raising a family takes a whole lot of effort and energy.

Fathers who focus on providing for the family are often preoccupied with work, marriage, sending kids to school, and making sure that there is food on the table. Oftentimes, self-care is the last priority of dads — if it’s even included on the list.

Dads, don’t forget that God cares about your physical health too.

Reminder: when you take good care of yourself, you are in a better position to take good care of your loved ones.

So here is coach, motivational speaker, and Beyond Small Talk host LA Mumar who shares 6 simple health tips for busy fathers like you:

Tip #1: Seek help from mentors

Do you want to live a healthy lifestyle, but don’t know where to start?

Seek advice from family members, friends, and health experts. Look for mentors who can teach you the proper way of eating and exercising. Look for people who can encourage you to be the healthiest you.

Tip #2: Always go back to your vision

List down the goals you wish to achieve and do your best to stick to it. For LA, being healthy and fit enable him to take good care of his family and bond with them.

“It is important to have a vision. I always need to go back to the vision of having a healthy lifestyle – for God, for my family, and for my job so I can do it properly,” he shared.

Tip #3: Practice self-discipline

Mastering self-discipline is key to good health!

In the article “Self-Discipline: Persisting Until You Reach Your Goals,” Mind Tools shared tips for developing self-discipline. You must choose a goal, find your motivation, identify obstacles, replace old habits, and monitor your progress.

Tip #4: Make small steps toward your goal

Eat right. Drink lots of water. Get enough sleep. It all sounds simple, right?

These seemingly simple things can make or break your overall health. It’s true that the small things make the biggest difference!

As LA puts it, “When we think of these things, we think, ‘Do they really have a purpose?’ But, when we combine all these, they make a world of difference.”

Tip #5: Maximize your current space

Got no room to exercise? Even when you are stuck at home, you can do simple exercise routines! You only need a small space and the willingness to do it.

As a basketball coach, LA believes that if there is a will to stay physically active, there is a way.

“Some people in my team do not have spacious homes, but they find ways to exercise. Your determination is important. Even if you have a small space, there are many ways to exercise,” he said.

Tip #6: Search for workout ideas online

If you are worried about your safety and your budget, you don’t have to enroll in a fancy gym.

Stay healthy and practical with the help of the internet! With just one click, you can find thousands of free exercise routines and workout videos — no equipment needed.

“Body exercises are good, and that’s what we do in our team. With various ways to exercise and our access to internet, our limited budget cannot limit us.” He continued, “As we keep on pursuing and plowing in, eventually, we will see the fruits of our efforts. We can do this!”

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Is there Blessing in Giving?

For pre-school teacher Sharon Pagang, the answer will always be a resounding yes.

Sharon first learned the value of giving from her parents. This lesson stayed with her as she grew up and had a family of her own.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

One evening, Sharon and her husband Jovenal chanced upon The 700 Club Asia. They saw the many struggling families helped through Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB) and it touched their hearts. Without any hesitation, the couple heeded the call to help through giving.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

“My husband and I were encouraged by the stories of people who were touched by God’s faithfulness. That night, we decided to give to Operation Blessing,” Sharon recalled.

Like Sharon, do you long to give whenever you hear and witness the struggles of others?

It is easy to be a blessing to others when life is all good and easy, but what about when it’s hard? Barely a month after Sharon decided to bless others, she found out that she had kidney stones.

Worried and anxious about the possibility of a medical operation, she doubted if she was physically and financially ready for this challenge.

In the midst of her uncertainty, Sharon was reminded that God is her great healer. She decided to remain prayerful, faithful and committed to her calling.

“I told my husband that in spite of what we are going through, we will continue to help God’s ministry,” Sharon said.

Little did she know, she was up for a miracle.

Just weeks after she prayed, the kidney stones were flushed out of her body! It meant two things: she no longer needed a medical operation and she just received God’s miraculous healing.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Sharon exclaimed, “Yes, Lord! We are forever grateful to You for Your healing touch.”

Exceedingly grateful for God’s faithfulness, Sharon’s generosity increased. She and her husband happily gave more than what they initially pledged to Operation Blessing.

Truly, God is the source of provision, healing, and life.

No one can ever outgive God, and Sharon’s story is wonderful proof of this fact. Blessings followed after Sharon and her husband blessed others with their giving. Business opportunities opened for their family; her husband was promoted to a managerial role.

And that’s not all. “We have been praying for a baby and because God is so faithful, He gave us one!” Sharon shared. “We are so happy and thankful, and we will never forget the outpour of blessings we received from Him.”

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Even in a pandemic, God’s divine sustenance never fails to amaze the couple. Sharon and Jovenal found God’s peace during these trying times – the ultimate blessing they receive whenever they give.

And if like them, you want to experience the blessing that comes from giving, the couple has a message for you:

“This pandemic is the time where we can show our gratitude to God. One way of showing how thankful we are is to give. Learn to share. Do not worry for tomorrow for we cannot fathom His plans for us.”

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Are you blessed by this story?

Do you also want to experience the blessing in giving, but you do not know where to start?
