An “unlikely” business partnership
Success came easy for Vangie Ng who only needed a bit of imagination infused to a childhood hobby to earn quick cash. She started by making Christmas cards and realized that her talent was leaning toward things Christmas-y.
She called up a mall one day and took the risk. “That same day is the deadline for submission … so I ran and took the cab,” she says. “I was literally on my feet.”
Vangie’s ingenious Christmas decors were a hit to the shoppers. The orders kept pouring in every year until she almost gave up because of personal trials and pressures.
“My health deteriorated. I had a series of surgeries,” she says.
Her condition brought her to a dizzying downward spiral: the business incurred losses, the commercial space was taken, and her delivery van was stolen. It was like being mugged by unseen thieves and left for dead.
But God didn’t allow Vangie to lie helpless and insecure for long. As she ambled her way back to spiritual health and confidence, an opportunity to start a new business opened up.
“This time I really had to beg God to give me direction. I was scared that I might get sick again,” she says.
In her search, AmaKo was birthed. It became the brand that she carried in retail outlets.
“AmaKo means ‘my Father’ simply because (my prayer then was), Ama ko (my father), what do you want me to do?” says Vangie.
She cried out to God for a revelation. She did not know which direction to take. The answer came through a product made out of the lowly bamboo. It brought back Vangie’s creativity, wisdom and passion, and further established in her heart God’s faithfulness.
“I really prayed hard and asked Him to reveal to me the components, including the price. This collection will be something that is classic and enduring, I thought then,” she says. “True to God’s promise and faithfulness, a new product came out and it became a bestseller!”
This started Vangie’s partnership with the Lord: He became her “business consultant.” Naturally, her business thrived and earned tremendous return of investments.
“AmaKo had a very remarkable sales report. It constantly meets the monthly quota,” she says. “That’s something very, very hard for other companies to maintain.”
One day, she asked God where to bring the extra cash. And for Vangie, the answer was an episode of The 700 Club Asia TV special “Secrets of Financial Blessings.”
That night, she immediately pledged P5,000 ($125) for the work of the Lord. And, just as fast, she also reaped the fruits of her giving.
“I was amazed because the blessings came in succession,” she says. There was an instance when AmaKo earned P1,000 ($40) a day from instant buyers.”
But ultimately, Vangie knows that the key to her triumphant business, including her life, is her obedience to her Father.
“I told God that I will not handle my business. It is His, it is in His name. Just use me and teach me what to do so You can be glorified,” she says.
