It
is a disease that strikes fear in women. Breast cancer
attacks one out of every nine women in the United States.
In fact, every 12 minutes another woman dies from this
dreaded disease.
Orthopedic
surgeon Dr. Lorraine Day, a breast cancer survivor,
nearly lost her life to the disease. However, she beat
the cancer and credits a radical change in her diet
with saving her life. Recently, she met with 700 Club
co-host Terry Meeuwsen to discuss her triumphant battle
with breast cancer.

TM:
How did you decide on a course of action?
LD:
The first doctor I went to-a surgeon who knew I was
a physician refused to take care of me if I didn't have
the regular standard treatment prescribed for virtually
every cancer patient.
TM:
What made you decide you weren't going to do that?
LD:
I had seen many, many patients die of cancer with the
standard treatment
The therapies that we give
in medicine actually destroy a human being's immune
system. Chemotherapy, radiation, all destroy our immune
system. I wanted to build my immune system.
I
had learned something about nutrition and alternative
ways of healing the body. There are people who get well
from cancer with radiation and chemotherapy, but it
is mainly a result of nourishing their body enough to
overcome the effects of the destructive aspect of the
treatment.
TM:
How did you decide what program you'd follow?
LD:
I started reading about a lot of alternatives, and I
bumbled around for a long time. That's one reason I
got sicker, because I tried a lot of supplements and
I tried different kinds of diets. Then I went back to
the Bible. Genesis 1:29 tells us the basic diet that
we're supposed to eat, and that is fruits, grains, vegetables
and some nuts. And so I went back to that basic diet,
plus I did all the other natural things.
I
eat as close to nature as possible. I try to eat 75
percent of my food raw. I don't eat anything in a can
or in a box fruit. But not fruit and vegetables at the
same meal, because the fruit has sugar in it and it
will cause it to ferment while your vegetables are trying
to digest.
Exercise
is very important to get enough oxygen to the body.
Cancer cannot thrive in a high-oxygen environment, so
we must have exercise.
I
also drink 16-20 glasses of water a day.
TM:
Is the reason water is so important because it washes
some of the toxins through the system?
LD:
Yes, but it also is part of the cell wall that actually
forms the integrity of the cell. If you don't have that,
your cells are not healthy.
The lack of water
is one of the basic causes of almost all serious diseases.
We lose 10 glasses of water from our body every day
just by living.
For every cup of coffee we drink,
or caffeinated beverage, we (lose from) our systems
twice as much water as we took in.
(In
addition to water, a person needs) proper sun. Don't
get burned, but get out in the sun.
(Also,)
stay away from sugar. The sugar coats your immune cells
and paralyzes them, so your immune system cannot protect
you.

for you;" (Genesis 1:29).

eyes of all look to Thee, And Thou dost given them their
